Are you all trying to confuse me even further?? I'm easily confused and was convinced it was still Monday, and of course it is here on the Meridian! Phew - Alzheimers held at bay once more!

Sharon is an Aussie.
yes Karen - it is very similar to fly stitch but it's connected and fly stitch is usually done separately. For the "real" stitch, it is supposed to be even. Mine is pretty wonky in the photo.

Is it just me who finds her explanations a bit hard to understand?

Wow, I am so glad I came back to this thread to thank Ruth for posting. I was going to add that after reading it I was totally confused. I'm glad to see others feel the same way. I think I have it figured out now, but will have to wait until I can try it out. Karen, I'm off to take a look at your link. Perhaps that will help. If the stitches get much more complicated I'm going to really be lost.
ETA: Oh, okay, that made it a lot simpler to understand. Thanks again, Karen.

It actually isn't hard once you get going. The guidelines really help if you haven't done it before.

That was a great illustration, Karen. I have done some embroidery, but not a lot. I am pretty rusty and am trying to get up to speed.

Thanks for that link, Kaz I'm glad it's not just me! I got my Aida, but I didn't realise it'd be so stiff.

Grr, I can't seem to win with fabric. That Aida is really stiff. The holes are good for being neat, but it's not good for being creative. I re-did my first two weeks' stitches on it and couldn't do much with the fly stitch. I think I'll use the Aida for learning and being 'technically correct' and use something else for practising/being creative. This is the one and only time I will do feather stitch

That does not sound encouraging, Zed. I haven't tried it yet as I have been working on embroidering my black purse, and unraveling sari yarn! When I do the lining for the purse, I will definitely use it.
