Hello Lyn, thanks for your great soap and pebbles tutorial. The soap and pebbles are very neat and pretty. I really like the fancy thread. Thank you - the fancy thread is a good idea if you want to sell, or gift, your soaps - presentation makes a difference!

Thanks for posting your tutorial, Lyn. My only issue with felting soap is that by the time you are finished felting, half of the soap is gone! Maybe just my technique. I like how the pebbles turn out…I felted some “river rocks” back when I first discovered wet-felting. And yes, presentation is important! They do make nice paper-weights.

I like the look of the felted soaps and river rocks too and I use the rocks as press-papier too. I would like to make a huge look alike soap where you can sit on and looks as a rock. anyone suggestions how to make that one? thanks.

I've always had the same problem, Cathy, the soap shrinks quicker than the felt! Lyn's tutorial is the one that works best for me though, and we used it at the well being group and everyone found it really easy.

Cathy, Zed, What kind of soap are you using. everyone always comments on how much longer soap lasts when its wrapped in felt. Mine don't shrink at all while I am felting them. I have used Yardley, Dove, Castle and Ives, Irish Spring and others.

I never had any problem with the soap shrinking - perhaps mine were harder bars of soap?

This is just a guess ... never done it ... how about making rock shaped resist to felt around, then cut a slit, just large enough to remove the resist, on what you would make to be the underside, then when it's dry poke a very good quality fibre stuffing in through the slit. You could stitch up the slit and perhaps hide it with a bit of needle felting.
Or ... if you're brave enough to try it ... sew a stone shaped bag from cheesecloth, stuff it with a good quality fibre, then try to felt around it as you would a soap.

The soaps I had used were fancy ones, like Roger Gallet and handmade natural soaps, like goat, lavender, etc. I should really try again sometime using Lyn's tried and true method.

With my first attempt at felted soaps I used Dove soap, I didn't want to go cheap or expensive, but middle of the road. I don't think they dwindled with the felting.

Thanks for the idea Lyn. I think plan A is the best because that will give less mess with water. I will give it a try with sheepwool however I don't like sheepwool for felting , it takes a long time for felting finally.
