Does anyone have any carders for sale? Does that make sense - carding combs? what is the tech name? Just been given 7 jacobs fleeces, so i've lots of washing to do, then ........... Can any point me in the right direction to buy any if not got any for sale Please
Have you thought about getting a drum carder? They are quite expensive for a one off purchase, but worth every penny, seriously.
Ashford Hand carders are about £35 new, and a standard drum carder with brush from Classic Carder will cost about £320 or £330 with delivery. 10 times the amount, but it will do the carding more than 10 times faster, 10 times easier, and makes far less mess.
If you are really into wool/fibre arts, and with 7 fleeces I'd say that's pretty serious , I think it will pay for itself in time alone, but could also pay for itself if you sell batts from the fleeces.
yes the drum carder will make life a lot easier with that many fleeces to do. hand carders are handy to have either way and if you cant spring for a drum carder they are the way to go. even if you get a drum carder later hand carders are good to have. do you have a weaves and spinners group near you? You may be able to rent both hand carders and/or a drum carder. In my experience (not a lot) curved carders are easier to use than flat ones. Used ones try fiber equipment for sale on facebook, ebay, kijji and Craig's list.
