Hi Everyone After considering the feedback we've been getting since starting the site/forum, and reading comments, we decided to open an etsy store. Some of the things people commonly say is that they'd love to try new fibres, but they are too expensive, or don't want to buy a whole 100g, or that they would like to try a variety of samples. Our aim isn't to make huge profits from buying and re-selling fibres, but to simply use our skills and local resources to be able to make fibres more accessible and affordable to everyone. Hopefully our range will expand before long, but for now we have our first listing: A Silk Fibres Sample pack. This has approximately 20g each of silk hankies, silk throwsters waste, silk carrier rods and silk noil. Each pack is US $4.98, which is about £3.25, AU$4.83, NZ$6.27, CA$5.09, €3.92 There are only 5 packs I'm afraid, so we're letting forum members know first. www.etsy.com/shop/FeltandFiberStudio

What a great idea! I'm wanting to try a few things, but don't want to buy 'industrial quantities'.

Well, if anyone has any ideas, let us know, we can only try btw, when I was listing, I did a quick search for Silk Hankies, someone was selling 230g of natural ones for $58, I almost fainted! I don't know how anyone affords to felt/spin/weave etc if they rely on etsy

Gee, Zed, you should never ask for "ideas"! - a handmade yarn sampler (a yard each of a dozen different yarns/threads), a fiber sampler (to include your experimental plastics), a dyed silk sampler (little pieces to incorporate in felt designs), buttons and beads sampler, etc., etc. Can I have a standing order, please.

Thanks, Pam And Thanks, Judith. What kind of mulberry fibre do you mean? It's not something I use often, but I know it comes in a variety of 'types'. What is the right word that describes the different types/formats of one fibre, like Silk noil, silk top, silk hankies? It seems like it should be related to 'process'. 'Products' sounds a bit manufactured.

mulbary silk is the naturaly white silk from worms fed only mullbery leaves. At least thats what I was told. the worms that eat other things give you the slightly gold coloured stuff, you often see it bleached and it is usualy less expensive than mulberry.

I think I meant mulberry bark - but hey, you know me, I'd give anything a go;)
I think WoW refers to them as 'effect fibres'
