Thanks Ann for that explanation. I have used PVA to stiffen crochet baskets. I have subsequently washed them and then reshaped and dried them (several times). I have also used it as a "fray stop" and subsequently as a stiffener on brocade motifs that I have appliquéd to a theatrical costume. I have also used it to stiffen needlefelted figures or parts of them. The last time I used it was to make a pair of horns for a highland cow, I topped them off with clear nail varnish and I don't think damp has affected them. One thing that I have used to coat needlefelted "stones" is White Acrylic Gesso Primer, and then painted them. I was making a dry stone wall to attach some embroidered stumpwork ivy to. I added some french knot lichen to the stones. If your needle is sharp enough it is quite easy to sew through the felt "stones. Ann

The gac seems to come in a lot of different numbers. I don't know if it rates the stiffness or what. Seems to be used to prep and stiffen linen canvas for painting. Sounds like a well-polished cow. LOL. I have never really done much with fabric or art so all these things are new to me.
