Recently, we have had small traumas within my extended family, and so I took a few days off from felting last week and spent several days on the phone trying to ease the pain of various sibs and their children. I really missed my felting work and reminded myself to take some time daily, even if it is just hand-embroidering or setting up fibers for a new piece. This feeling was re-affirmed after reading Ruth's message about losing a friend on the 4th of July, as described on her blog, "Permutations in Fiber."
I agree, Ruth, life IS too short, and so I am beginning a new thread to reaffirm my passion for art and the importance of taking time daily to be an artist. The fact is, I don't feel fulfilled when I am not paying attention to my passion for being creative. So I hope that I can give myself the gift of "a daily dose" of fiber, and I hope to inspire others to do the same.
After attending a BBQ last evening, I returned home and finally framed my most recent piece, "Anemones," which you will hear about on a future Studio blog piece written by Marilyn (Pandagirl) and me (Luvswool.)
Today, I am beginning a new piece using resists--that's all I will say for now.
What are you working on today? Do you give yourself a daily dose of fiber? If not, why?

Great challenge Cathy! I try to do something with fiber everyday. Unfortunately, so far today it's been shortening blouses for my trip. I've lost 4" in height and now I need petite blouses. So, I spent my morning cutting and hemming blouses. But it's fiber, right? ;-). I'm also planning on small projects to take with me to California to work on. I may to tuck a little roving in the suitcase to stay connected.

O Cathy, I understand you so well. I had my grand daughter over for a week. I love her very much but as it is with small children, they totally ocupy you.I need to admit that I missed that "dose of fiber" every day. As soon as she left I took out my equipment and materials and started felting.

I made a couple of felt zippered pouches. I'm going to make three more now.

OK, Halay and Marilyn, that's the spirit! What did you make today? Ruth: zippered pouches, more than one? Terrific!
Today I made two circles using resists. Yes, I do have a plan!

Cathy what a wonderful message, I feel the same too - most days are fibre days even if it's only building a stone stack by the river :-)

I'm totally obsessed with fibre and felting. Every time I enter any shop I look for things which would be useful for felting. At the moment there are sales going on and I'm looking for fabrics that I could use.

Thanks, Carole. I think building a stone stack with your felted stones counts, why not?
Halay, I understand your obsession! I now look at other kinds of art work and imagine them in felt.

I really need to work on this too. Get rid of the frustrating things and do the enjoyable ones.

Finished wet-felting two more large circles today and embellished with wool yarn and roving by needle-felting. I will post photos soon!

You've got the pod bug haven't you? I think he'll appreciate the wolf pod - especially with the link to his game! Merino wool can be "chunked up" with lots of different fibres - here's one with a top layer of nepps, curls, and judging by the hairiness of it, some other fibre on top too (can't remember what - was years ago - wish we'd kept better notes and photos in the early days). Have a good visit!

Thanks Lyn and Zed!
Lyn, I love your pod. Yes, I do have the bug. Now I have to make more before I visit the Florida Nelson's. :-). I think I'll have some fun with locks and chunks for the grandsons. ;-).
As always, thanks to you all for your inspiration and ideas!

Marilyn, I like the simplicity of your pod and Lyn, I like yours as well, especially the decor (thanks for reminding me that I have some wool neps which I can use - they will adhere well to coarse wool). Very nice pods. This "podomania" has taken over me too. I've just made another one (it is drying at the moment) but will post a picture when I add some beads. I personally try to avoid the so called "dust collectors" in my home but there are people who like such decorations and I agree that pods can make a nice and useful gift.
