I started working on my Monet piece. I made a piece of prefelt and a pattern today. I think you'll be able to tell by the shape of the prefelt what painting I got my inspiration from. You can see more of the process on my blog post.

I have a good idea what's inspired you and having read your blog post I reckon your plans are going to result in a stunning picture - can't wait to see it.
I just wish I could stop humming the Batman theme tune when I look at the pre-felt!

It reminded me of Batman too I'm looking forward to the end result.

Hello Ruth, to me your Prefelt looks like a castle in a reflective pond. Very pretty.

I love it Lyn! The tussah silk "light" really highlights the piece. Monet would be pleased. Please post pics when it's mounted. Thanks for sharing! It's now sealed within its mount and ready for framing - I haven't got a suitable frame yet but I'll keep checking the charity shops and I'll have one soon. (The brown around the edge isn't framing, it's a tabletop - there was a break in the weather so I quickly took a table outside and grabbed a shot.) There's no raw edge of felt showing. It's a thin but dense piece of felt and I had already cut out the rectangle I wanted. I then cut a rectangle from the black mount board a quarter of a centimetre smaller on every side than the piece of felt, then I put a piece of double-sided tape in the centre of it. I placed the felt right side down on the table then placed the rectangle of mount board on it so that there was a quarter centimetre of felt showing all around. The main piece of mount board was placed right side down on the table then I returned the cut-out rectangle of mount board to the hole that it had been cut from, trapping the edges of the felt between the two. I secured everything with 'framer's tape' to make a very neat reverse.

The finishing looks terrific, Lyn! The black mount really sets off the landscape. When you say, “sealed within its mount,” what exactly do you mean? Is the fiber glued to the mount board? Once framed, will you cover with non-reflective glass, or not?

Excellent technique for mounting…is your black “mount board” anything like masonite board which they sell at Blick’s? Or do you use what we call “mat board” in the States? Thanks for sharing, Lyn!
I’ve lashed felt pieces to black canvas or painted canvas covered boards, and I’ve also stretched the felt piece around stretcher bars, but I do like the appearance of your felt piece against the black board.

UK mount board = US mat board. The mount board I used is white one side and black the other, so when I cut the rectangle out, there was a white edge showing. Doh! So I coloured it with black marker pen and you'd never know.

Very dramatic Lyn! I hope you find the perfect frame for it.

Your matting looks great on the tree. Were you thinking of a wood frame or black or something else?

Hello Lyn, the use of the black mount for your felted art is very lovely. It is just perfect for it. Your Monet piece sparkles . Great job.
