I just about managed to last the day! I think the hardest part was getting there. I just live in an awkward place for public transport. I did end up having to walk about half of the way, so really crashed about an hour after getting there. I didn't sell much, but did cover the cost of the stall, which was only £10. And I managed to get some onions on the way home which I really needed (but also a sunburned face, which I didn't!) I took a few photos and met some nice people, including a woman who gave me some gorgeous wensleydale locks. I'll do a post about it in a couple of days.

Looking forward to seeing the photos and reading the post. I'm sorry and surprised that you didn't sell much - there obviously weren't any serious buyers around.

Oh my goodness, that sounds like a bit of a trial, but you got onions and made good contacts, I would put that in the ' a good day' rank, feet up and relax :-)

Sorry that you didn't sell much, I hope you are not discouraged. Finding the right shows where the right people go is not always easy. I am sorry that transportation is such a difficulty, Sunday busses are terrible here too. Can you sell from your blog? I will help spread the word on facebook.

I'm sorry you didn't sell a lot, but you are building some good experiences with the smaller fairs. And good contacts are priceless. I look forward to seeing your pics and post! D you have some aloe for the sunburn? You've earned a good rest. I admire you for making such an effort.

Oh dear, don't be disheartened, it wasn't the best day for a craft fair. Everyone was either out on the route watching the Tour de France, or glued to the box at home.

I did wonder if the Tour de France would impact on the craft fair - it seems as though it did.
I'm not a cycling fan, but I did enjoy watching it for a while on Saturday afternoon (well deserved feet-up-while-eating-my-lunch after working all morning in the library) just to see beautiful Yorkshire, and what glorious weather!

I certainly wished for better sales for you, but as others have noted, making contacts is also valuable. You could always add your unsold goods to Etsy. I give you a lot of credit just for trying! I am way too shy to think about selling at a fair.

Thanks everyone Actually, it was probably far less effort than photographing everything/writing descriptions and listing on etsy, and even without selling much, I still sold far more than the last year and a half on etsy! The sporting events did have an impact, a lot of people said so. Lots of people from here went to watch the Tour de France, and Wimbledon was on, and a more regular craft market in town was on too. I took photos yesterday when I unpacked, so hopefully I can give some tips for anyone without a car wanting to do a fair. I did learn a few things too and it was nice meeting people.

I find photographing and describing things for Etsy a real pain in the neck. I might be doing a Craft Fair later in the year and I'd be really interested to know which were your best sellers.

I hate the weighing and working out the prices for all the countries and how much with another item etc I sold mostly small cheap items the other day, bookmarks, soap, little pouches and one piece of felt. At the small one at the LGBT centre just before Christmas notebooks and my 2 silk paper purses were popular, and I sold lots of rainbow bookmarks. I'm thinking that next time I'll use cards to describe what items can be used for and the price range ie 'Medium gadget cases suitable for many phones and cameras, or even packs of cards. Prices range from £4 to £6' No one even turned labels over to look at prices and though I didn't want to 'limit' them by saying what things could be used for, I wondered if they had a clue what anything was.

Zed - with a Christmas craft fair you might increase sales with some prompts.
e.g. If Aunt Ada was wandering around and saw a sign that read something like "perfect presents for girls" on a basket of suitable goodies, she might remember the trouble she usually has buying for her nieces and have a look.

Yes - signage that tells people what to do is always a big help. I think Lyn's idea of "perfect presents" or your "medium gadget cases" is a great idea.
