This was posted to the felt list yesteday so it may be gone.
If anyone in the Chicago area wants one, I have a Laundry Alternative I think I used once and now I'm not felting at all and hardly knitting either, so it is yours if you can come pick it up. Trying to get some of this stuff out of the house!
Also, please email me if you know anyone in the area who would like a Norwood 40" loom (4 harness, 6 treadle, sectional warp beam, bench, and all accoutrements) that is in very good condition but has been sitting unused for 27 years! Also a barely touched Lendrum spinning wheel and all accoutrements that is 4 years old. I'd like $450 for the Lendrum (comparable $700-$900 value) and $400 for the Norwood (comparable value $1000-$2000 or so). NO SHIPPING...PICK-UP ONLY
Thanks, Susan Swartz Sent from my iPad beadmomsw@gmail.com

A spin dryer.

Thanks Lyn. That's what I thought. I just never heard the term. I use a salad spinner and that works just fine for what I'm doing now.

I love mine for bigger peices or when I do a whole bunch of thing s in the same day. Lyn I here they are more common in Europe. Min is an old one I got second hand. The lady said she had used it for years and brought it from Germany when her MIL died. It is heavy. It would make a good match to an old white enameled wringer washer.

Ann, thanks for sharing the post, but at this stage, the spin dryer does not make sense for me.

Ann - now that front loading washing machines are very popular in the UK, the old spin dryer is not so common. Shame because it's a great little machine. If you want to run the spin cycle in a front loader it's time consuming (mine takes 20 mins - ridiculous!) but a good old spin dryer gets the job done in a couple of minutes (or less).
I know I'm old fashioned, but I miss my old twin-tub. However, I sometimes forgot to hook the emptying hose into the sink and the floor got washed at the same time as the clothes!

Been there, Done that. I am an old timer from the wringer washer days. And yes, I have caught my fingers in the wringer. That is the true test of an old timer. If you haven't caught your fingers in a wringer, you do not qualify as an old timer.

I've still got a spinner I got from my gran, it was brill. About 900RPM, which is what my last machine was! It wobbles, rattles and the wires look a bit dodgy so I haven't used it for a while. I'd deffo use it for spinning felt if I trusted the wires more.

Judy, my mom had one and I remember being relieved when we talked her into a new one. My MIL lost a finger to one as a young girl.
Zed, I don't blame you. Can your son take a look at the wires or maybe one of his handy friends?

It's from before our wiring system changed, Marilyn Just a black and red wire, not brown, blue and earth, so I'd probably have to get a professional onto it.

That's too bad. I have a big old time radio that's just sitting in the basement. It needs new wiring and refurbishing. I don't want to get rid of it because it was my grandmothers and it holds special girlhood memories for me. I just haven't gotten around to having someone look at it. Even if I don't fix the wiring, I'd like to be able to display it. Too bad there wasn't someone like Myk in your area that would take pleasure in restoring it.
