Yes, I covered all the yarns with a very fine mesh of wool fibres, I suspect this would not have been necessary if I had used wool yarn.
Thanks for the link Lyn, have you ever tried to make frogs from felt ropes? I think they will look much nicer than the nylon ones most shops seem to sell but the felt might stretch over time... What do you think?

Thanks Lyn
Are they the chinese style fasteners? Like ornately knotted ropes?

I did SDO too (I think a few people on the forum have) I really enjoyed it though have to admit I already knew at least 50% of the techniques she presented (I suspect you will be the same) but still found it really inspiring to see the directions the other students took with each sample and especially the final piece.

This week I have been working on a "tweed" jacket using the link that Galina supplied, this has made a small dent in my vast collection of non-wool yarns, I was pleasantly surprised at how well they felted into the merino, there are just a couple of small loops that I will stitch down by hand. More photos and a more information on how I made this are on my blogNada suggested I use press studs since none of my buttons look "right", I will have to explore that idea - thank you Nada!

It looks great Elizabeth! You can never have too many sockets, is it too late to squeeze in a couple more?!

I wish, but I went last year and still have the larger part of 3 fleeces left to use from that visit! Have fun and give the black nose valais a scratch behind the ears from me (I was very tempted to steal them, they are soooo cute).

Totally agree with what others have sai, I really like the subtle colour changes, it's the sort of effect that if tried to achieve it, it wouldn't happen! Likewise agree with the advice given, for my money using commercially dyed wool and avoid using water too hot to leave your hand in.

Today I have been working on another hat using the ugly pinky-brown prefelt, this is another "bark" hat, this time with a little tuft of moss poking from the crown...

Hats aren't as difficult as some may look, if you can make a pod, you can make a hat!

The peak was created just by folding and stretching the felt, you might have better luck increasing the picture size from my blog, this link should take you to the correct post.
