I've been in a huge felting trough of late, but this afternoon I made a lampshade with merino, tussah silk and Mohair curls, no photos as yet - too late, just got back from Bridge - did reasonably well. I made it because we have to have these ridiculous energy saving light bulbs which are oversized, protrude beyond the shade and annoy me intensely - really hurt my eyes! The mohair curls extend beyond the edge of the shade and prevent the glare.

Yes, I am going to have to get rid of some of my favorite lamps, because they require the older style bulbs. Not to mention that the newer ones have mercury in them and are not disposable. What are they thinking??? Would be interested to see your solution.

Judy and Judith can't you find regular bulbs? They still sell theme here.

For now, I can still find very poor quality regular bulbs; that last about 3 weeks. But our gracious government has called a halt to any more manufacturing of these type bulbs and they are putting restrictions on any importation from Mexico. They mean business with this and my lamps are living on borrowed time. I am also thinking about my ceiling lights and lighted bathroom light bar. This type of lighting is very different than the soft lights we now use.

Problem solved!
The mohair curls extend beyond the shade and the offending oversized bulb which makes me feel like I'm having the 3rd degree when I'm sitting at the other side of the room.
Ann, we can't get 'regular' bulbs here anymore. Just these expensive clunky things which give off a miserable light, often with a horrid greenish tinge. Trouble is, you can't tell what sort of light you'll get until you get it home!

That looks great, Judith Gorgeous texture Wilkies sells eco bulbs for lamps, they do globe and candle shapes. I still have a few of the old type left. I used one in my hall a few months ago when I needed extra light to clean it. It lasted about 6 weeks at the most. I don't like the smell of the energy savers when they're new, and I have no idea what we're meant to do with them, I have a tub of old ones in my under-stairs cupboard.

Love the lamp. It really softens the look of the lamp.
My biggest objection is the price of the new bulbs. They do make them in different shapes now but they are even more. The LED ones are even more horrendously priced. I don't understand it I can buy a little flashlight with 6 LEDs for a couple of dollars but if they fit a lamp they cast $40. Zed, here they are supposed to go to the hazardous waste depot.

Beautiful shade. The locks really make it special.

That's a very attractive shade Judith!
I know what you mean about the 'orrible light the bulbs give off and the ugly way they poke out from regular shades.
I've got a 5' daylight fluorescent tube on the ceiling of my craft room (no diffuser) and although it's no beauty, I can at least see what I'm doing!
