I hate it when I know I have something but for the life of me, I can't find it. Happens quite frequently

Got up early and worked on the Mixed Media. It is actually getting more interesting all the time. I went to our Senior's Art Guild and found out that the clubhouse we meet in is being renovated and we are homeless. Fortunately, I had just looked at a larger space and had asked the board to have this month's board meeting there, so that they could see the space. It is at least 4 times larger than our current space and has it's own gallery. We could put on our own exhibits there. It has a full kitchen for receptions and staff that can set up our tables and chairs. And...it is free to us. Talk about luck. We also are getting new members. So, now you know why I was working so hard to update this guild. And it has all been positive for us. I think one of the problems is that these older artists just had no confidence in themselves as artists. They just wanted to quit. I feel better about all those hours now.

What kind of space is it Judy? It sounds ideal and you can't beat free! There isn't much around here and you always have to pay for using spaces.

That's great news Judy. It's always nice when your hard work pays off. Maybe you will be able to get the to branch out now you have more space.

It has been very fortunate, as they are renovating the clubhouse that we are in and we have to relocate. This space is actually a Gallery and performing arts addition on a very large church in town. They do charity events that centers around art and music. That is why it comes equipped with a large kitchen and movable screens to hang artwork. There is a grand piano and they set up a P.A. system for you. They set up our folding chairs and any tables we need for our socials or workshops. They will advertise our events for us. This is a public service they do as a community outreach. So, all of this is a plus for us aging folks. Very excited.
In the meantime, my Mixed Media keeps evolving. I may decide to exhibit it after all. But, it is not quite finished and I will have to decide how to prepare it for hanging. I may decide to have a shadow box type frame with glass. I call it Boundaries, and it is very, very abstract and surreal. I have yet to decide if it is worthy of the investment. But, I will post pictures of it when it is finished.

So, finally the Mixed Media challenge is done and posted on my blog. I am putting the link on here so that you can read the explanation or interpretation of the far out, surrealist abstract piece. Not my usual type of work, but interesting. judysfiberart.blogspot.com/2013/09/no-boundaries.html

Judy, the piece is fabulous! I'm sure the photo doesn't show all the variations in color and depth let alone texture, but it gives a powerful impression. Thanks for sharing.

It's a lovely piece - my eye was taken around and around spotting new details each time, and the barbed wire is the most powerful component of it for your title.

Thanks everyone. As I said, I really didn't think I would be displaying this piece because it was not carefully planned out like most of my work and it is pretty much abstraction. But, it took on a life of it's own as I worked on it. Sort of like when an author writes a book. He doesn't know every detail when he begins, but the characters just dictate the story.

Wow, you really did put a lot of work into that, Judy Is it ok if we add it to the Challenge Gallery on the studio site? I finished my pieces this week, though I think I might add more to the red one. Mixed Media Blue by zedster01, on Flickr Red by zedster01, on Flickr

These are really attractive. I like the colors and the texture on them. Yes, you can add my No Boundaries to your gallery. I need to get busy putting a presentation of mixed media art together for the high school art teachers in November.

Great peices Zed. The orange is nice and the use of the patterned peices add alot of depth. Howerver I really like the blue one.

Zed - the marina is a truly beautiful piece! (I really liked the green one too but you haven't shown it on here.)
I agree that the red one just needs a little tweak to finish it.
