It's spring in the northern hemisphere and autumn in the southern hemisphere - both are seasons of bright colours - and this quarter's challenge reflects that! Please take a look and perhaps feel inspired to take part. Details of the challenge

Hello! This is to post my entry in the challenge, but I wish to explain a bit of it, first, as it was not inspired by public knowledge of the Twenties and Thirties, but by a personal connection. I remembered that my grandmother married at the beginning of the Thirties in Italy, and by a chance of fortune her wedding dress survived the Second World War and Reconstruction years. It survived many decades of neglect in my grandparents' attic and it was there when I got round to marry. I have always felt connected with my family's women, in a long chain of steps trodding on the same ancient cobbles of our Italian hometown: it was natural to me to consider the idea of wearing that same dress for my wedding, feeling that connection reaffirmed while marrying in the same chapel where my mother married. I just had it cleaned, the size matched my own, and here you can see it in these photos: www.dropbox.com/s/pwx4i822chn7ny0/IMG_3304.JPG?dl=0www.dropbox.com/s/nk41et87wk3inv5/IMG_3478.JPG?dl=0The dress, as you can see, is very simple, with an applied lace that runs down from the waist to the ends of the half-tail. Here you can see a detail of the lace on the waist: www.dropbox.com/s/rdq9kbgpfrn5om4/IMG_3502.JPG?dl=0I took inspiration from the detail of the lace and the dress, and I made a scarf-shawl all in white. Here it is: www.dropbox.com/s/7pzuypyq1acmiu3/IMG_20210409_081728.jpg?dl=0In the centre, I applied a detail inspired by the lace of my grandmother's dress: www.dropbox.com/s/dooy6bcixdpzsiv/IMG_20210409_081651.jpg?dl=0I asked you a lot of questions about it, please forgive me! š
I had not decided how I wanted to make it, and firstly I had thought about embroidering it, then discarded the idea because I did not have the soluble fabric (I ordered it, but it will take some time to arrive!) and I was not sure it would have worked, as I wanted it to pop out of the surface. Also, my time is very limited, and I know how much it takes to embroider an intricate pattern, as I have done quite a bit of embroidery in the past: I do not have weeks of free time now, only a few hours here and there! So, what I did was to make cords of wet felted wool, and attach them with needle felting: it was so very fast, compared to embroidering! I was also able to not bother with drawing a pattern on felt, I just pinned the cord to the felt, and was able to adjust it as I wanted until I found the right design. www.dropbox.com/s/m6vmmu1izcmmybh/IMG_20210408_153640.jpg?dl=0Maybe it is not perfect, but, as I said, I wanted to finish it quickly, so as not to stop and never finish it because of time constraints. I like how it all came out, and I feel connected to my family in Italy. And my daughter, who is going to celebrate her First Communion soon this year, may wear it in that special occasion if she likes. Keeping up the memories. Thank you for bearing with me! Caterina

What a charming story - and the dress is beautiful!
The way you worked out how to put the pattern on the scarf is ingenious and it looks so good. It would make a very pretty Communion scarf and the story behind the making of it would make it very special for the occasion.
Thank you for sharing the links to the photos.

What a beautiful dress (and bride!) and well done with the scarf, it looks really good and you worked it out for yourself in the end. I'm sure everyone would say that you didn't ask too many questions, it's not possible. I think that's what the forum is for, passing on ideas, knowledge and experience to others. It doesn't matter how many pieces we've made, we're all beginners at something. Ann

A beautiful dress. your scarf is wonderful and so many memories. Ann is right you can't ask too many questions. One of the nice things about the forum is you may get several suggestions on how to do the same thing.

I really like having different tips and suggestions, so that I can pick what I feel it will work in my space, with what I have or can buy, and with my limitations. Caterina

Your story, your family heirloom dress & your beautiful scarf are definitely treasures to cherish. You look stunningly elegant in the dress & your scarf echoes the simplicity of design placing the emphasis perfectly on the lace & the wearer. I hope your daughter will continue your strong female traditions & in years to come maybe add something creative to them herself.
Asking questions often produces a variety of answers, demonstrating that there are many ways to achieve something....and hopefully in turn validates your own thinking.
Looking forward to seeing your next exploits. š

I thought that the theme was two decades (1920 to 1929 AND 1930 to 1939),I apologise for getting it wrong. Although, I must admit that I am glad that the challenge spurred me to make that scarf, that I really like š. I am truly looking forward to seeing all the others' entries. Caterina
