Lyn, I think Annie's piece is fabulous, I feel the tossing of the sea.

Finally finished my first attempt at a seascape, it was fun to do even though it didn't come out as I imagined. Any suggestions for improving next time would be very welcome

Your seascape is vibrant Pamster - I like the way you've blended the blues, from the wispy cloudy sky down through the wavy sea, and you've captured the surf breaking on the shoreline. The beach is inviting - I like the colour you've used for the sand - it looks so natural.

I looks great. You managed to separate the sea and sky. I find that very hard as they are often almost the same colour. The waves and beach look good too.

How had you imagined it would be? I agree with Lyn and Ann, it looks good. Definitely looks like the sea.

Thanks everyone Ruth, I imagined the surf breaking on the shore to be more vibrant than it is, it feels motionless to me.

Perhaps if you had more transition from the blue to white to sand color? You have a band of white and then a nearly solid band of blue. If you had more wispy white transitioning in that solid blue area it might give it more movement. You could try it out and then needle felt it if you liked it.

You’ve made a great picture Pamster and should be proud of it. I’m not sure I’d change anything but as you asked for suggestions... You have a white section in front of the main wave which looks like the foam from a previous wave. You could add a little blue to that as the wet would probably pick up a bit of colour from the sky. That may give a bit more definition. You could also needle felt other bits of felt, locks & wool onto the wave. If you want more definition in a wave on your next go you can really pile on locks, silk hankies, wool burrs and other bits & pieces. Even scraps of fabric, lace & ribbon. I find if you layer up silk hankies without too much wool on top you can pick at them with a broken needle felt needle when the picture is fulled & dry which makes the picture more 3D.

Thanks Lindsay.
As a novice I find it relatively easy to determine what is not working for me, but not so easy to work out how to make it work, so I really appreciate suggestions from those with more experience.

I am with you there Pam. I can often see its not right but am at a loss as to what to do to make it right. Taking a picture often helps. For some reason it can be easier to see things in a picture.
