I'd like to make a few pieces of felted soaps and then embroider them with cotton thread or wool yarn. I have found no tutorials and would appreciate any tips/instructions.

It might be difficult to do this as the soap shrinks as you use it. Plus the embroidery might easily pull loose. I would suggest embroidering something that doesn't get so much use and water over it on a constant basis when used.

Some felters needle felt designs onto their wet-felted soaps and it looks a bit like embroidery. In this video the design ideas start at 5mins 22secs: link 1This is another video: link 2I hope that helps a bit.

If you really want to embroider then just do it as usual but as the other said it will get a lot of rough handling and the felt keeps shrinking.
