Lindsay both vases are great and quite large too. Looking forward to seeing air & water.
Is Fire support by glass too? Does that explain it's base shape? If so have you created resists specifically for these glass vases, or did you just create your felt pieces and have the glass vases to hand (I suppose I’m asking for the answer to the chicken & egg story!)

Thank you, Antje. Yes, Fire has a very heavy glass vase inside with a thick base (see photo link). I did create the resists specifically for the individual vases. All of the vases have come from charity shops except ‘earth’ which I got in TK Maxx. I was looking for different shaped vases and paid between £3 and £10 for them. www.ipernity.com/doc/2373440/48154320t www.ipernity.com/doc/2373440/48154322

Thank you Lindsay. Your Fire resist photo has put another question in my mind....is it a sleeve for the glass rather than a felt vessel? Is Earth the same?

Yes. I’ve made lots of vases which are complete vessels (with a curve in the bottom of the resist) but because of the size (and sometimes the shape) of these they’re more sleeves around glass than felt vessels in themselves. I want to make them removable for washing but can’t do that with a complete vessel if the base is much bigger than the top. You can’t get a large glass base through a small felt top. Earth folds underneath a few cm but doesn’t have a complete felt base. Fire is really a sleeve where the felt ends at the bottom of the sides. Does that make sense?

Thank you....totally makes sense, and well thought out from a users point of view.

Air is perfect! Are these going to be all displayed on one surface? Or will you have separate plinths for each?

Air is perfect! Are these going to be all displayed on one surface? Or will you have separate plinths for each? Thanks everyone for their kind comments. They will have to be displayed together as I have a relatively small display area. Here’s a snap in my studio of the 3 so far together. www.ipernity.com/doc/2373440/48416280‘Water’ is a bit trickier to photograph as it has Angelina fibre in the surface. I’ll post that later in the week.

Air is very good. It reminds me of those cylindrical pictures.

https://www.instagram.com/p/Bv3cDlhluRv “Water” - final vase in the Alchemy classical elements series. Blue merino base, fused Angelina fibre, silk and mixed wool fibres in the top layer. 2 ‘cracks’ created by putting shaped resists between the layers and cutting them out. They go on display tomorrow afternoon so it will be interesting to see whether and how people react to them.
