Hi all!
I'm Rebecca Or Sailor or May, ect~
I'm very new to needle felting, I tend to ramble and I'm so excited to learn about this awesome art form!
I have some ideas for projects (I seem to get more ideas every time I go on pinterest lol) and I've got a few small kits to learn with. There are some really good videos I've seen around about all kinds of cool techniques but I have a few questions I was hoping someone here could help me with? I've looked through the forums here (and ended up very distracted more than once lol!) but haven't really seen a complete answer to two issues I've encountered.
My first problem I've run into is probably a common one now that I think of it but is there a sturdier version of the leather finger guards? I've got two pairs that came with tool kits, one is thicker leather than the other but I've still ended up stabbing myself through them, ow! I'm toying with the idea of making my own guards lined with aluminium maybe? How advisable would that be?
Second is more of an effect I'm after for one project, it's an alien/sci-fi/fantasy wolf who has glowing markings on his face and chest but glow-in-the-dark wool isn't really a common thing? I've seen glow-yarn sometimes, usually around Halloween but I do have a lot of glow-dust! Is there a way I could combine the dust with my wool in a way that would get the dust to adhere to the fiber? And still glow of course lol! I've never tried to dye my own fiber before so I'm not sure if that would work? Would it be better to just brush the dust on after the model is done?
Oh! And it's nice to meet all of you!
Happy felting!
