Hi Folks. I am a newbie to felting and am totally addicted to Needle felting. I am retired along with my husband and live on Vancouver Island. I look forward to sharing my work and am grateful for the opportunity to learn from the crafters here.

If anyone knows of a local supplier on Vancouver Island that carries Merino wool, please let me know 😀

Hello. As with my UK friends above - a warm welcome. Look forward to hearing more from you. I’m sure others will be able to make supplier recommendations.

Welcome to the Forum. I'm looking forward to seeing what you make. I know her is a silk place out there. but there must be some sheep farmers. Does it have to be merino? All the needle felters I know don't like merino because it is so fine it take a long time to needle into any shape. Or are you doing pictures?

Welcome! Glad you joined us. Do you know if there is a spinners and weavers guild? Many times, members of these types of guilds will be a good resource for supplies. Also, yarn stores may be able to direct you to suppliers as well. I do hope you'll show us what you're creating.

I am needle felting with small projects, and have Corriedale wool that I am enjoying working with. I thought I would have more success with merino for the detail work. Could you suggest a wool other than Merino since its rather expensive here?. I am definitively a newbie. 😀 I would love to get some advise.

I think perhaps if you get a finer needle you would be fine with the Corriedale. If you only want small amounts for small details then maybe getting a variety pack of merino or starter pack would be a good thing. It would get you small amounts of lots of colours. Etsy or one of the facebook sale groups might be able to point you at a place that has them. I wet felt so buy large amounts wholesale from World of Wool. Unfortunatly the cheapest places are not Canadian.

Welcome Daunting! There are plenty of online sources around the world. Many of our members use World of Wool in the uk sometimes it’s cheaper to order from there. Also paradisefibers.com in the us, I look forward to seeing both your needlefelting and wet felting projects. Good luck sourcing your merino.
If you have Hobby Lobby or Michael’s in your area sometimes they carry small packages of wool, although it’s usually coarser than Merino.
