I’ve been making hangers for air plants this week which I’m mounting on white box canvases.

This is the one I posted wet in the Daily Dose thread. Decided to go with the green plant as the pink plants went better with the other hangers. One more to come which is drying at the moment.

The pink ones do look good against the paler backgrounds - I'm sure they'll sell well!

These look great Lindsay! When you sell them do you fill all the pockets with air plants or just one so people understand how to use them? I like the contrasts you achieved with the pink air plants. Not only the color but the way the air plant gives a vertical element in amongst the horizontal felted lines.

You can also move the plant around. Most of the pockets are a different colour inside so there’s some interest even without the plant. I’ve only had one person who asked about more than one plant and his wife / companion disagreed so I haven’t had to cross that bridge yet. Interesting point about the vertical vs horizontal lines. I hadn’t really thought about that or why I go for verticals on the felt.

Lovely Lindsay. I did find them on Amazon. Great. I hope you decide to make some hangings as there’s something very appealing about the plant & wool combination

Wow, Lindsay, what a great idea. I hope they find their homes quickly. They look lovely and I like the contrast inside the pockets against the pattern of the background....somehow it anchors the delicacy of it all. How will these be hung? Do you have a thin batten in a pocket?

Hi Lyndsay, this is such a useful and great idea. New to wet felting and I was wondering if you use a resist to make to pockets for the plants? Thanks

Hi Suel and thanks for your comments. Yes, I lay out a basic flat piece of felt (2 layers at right angles) then use a small resist for each pocket - a square or rectangle that’s rounded at the bottom and flat / squared on the top. If I want the inside of the pocket a different colour from the background I put that colour of wool or prefelt under the resist. Then I cover the resist with 2 layers of wool and add whatever decorative layer or embellishments I’m using across the piece. I cut across the top of the resist when I can feel / see it is starting to buckle as the felt shrinks and work the pocket shapes with my fingers.
Hope that’s clear. Do share some photos if you try it.

Hi Lindsay, I just wanted to follow up on my plant holder. Unfortunately I don't have the programs referenced to upload photos but wanted to send you an update. I started with 2 layers of core wool and placed another layer of color. My resist for the pocket worked great but I think my next try I will be a little bit more adventurous and with more pockets and color. This is my first real wet felting project and I love the process I just need to allow myself to be more creative and not worry about the outcome. Thank you again, Sue

That’s great, Sue. Sounds like you’re really doing well. I’m a bit like you and am naturally a little cautious around colour.
One of the main things I’ve learned from this forum is about the usefulness of making samples. You can make a small square of wet felt pretty quickly so if you’re not sure you’re going to like something, or don’t want to risk spoiling a bigger piece, make a few small squares to try out different effects and combinations then go for the one you like most. I thought I was too impatient to do this but it really doesn’t take long and can save you from much more wasted time making bigger projects you’re not happy with. You can make several small pieces at the same time & roll / full them together. Also, if you felt your samples well you can end up with lots of useful coasters!
Other members are better placed to advise on uploading pictures. On Lyn’s advice I opened a free Ipernity account where you upload your photos there and copy a link to them on the forum.
