Ha, ha. I’d like to think this is for environmentally friendly reasons but in truth we just tend to have a different laundry culture here in the UK. A lot of people don’t have space for a washing machine and a large dryer so, like me, they use a drying rack which folds away when not in use. My washing machine does dry as well but it’s not as efficient as a free-standing tumble dryer so I rarely bother. I notice a big difference when I go to North America for example and am rather envious of those big machines. I like the image of all the clothes frozen to the line. Especially if you could get all the shirt arms or stick out at right angles.

I could see that image as a piece of textile art Lindsay!
I'm lucky as I have a large covered area in my garden that's great for drying the clothes even when the weather is typically British, and we don't often see the temperatures drop below zero here on the mid-south coast - I couldn't cope with Ann's weather!

Lyn I don't think I would do well with all your grey rainy days. Even when its cold here its bright and sunny. Our west coast doesn't get as cold but does get a lot of rain in the fall and winter.

My daily dose yesterday was a trip to wooly heaven - a couple of hours in World of Wool stocking up. As ever I especially enjoyed rummaging through the lap waste skip ferreting out odd bits of this and that and some pretty substantial lengths of lovely stuff. Happy sigh.
I’m also picking up my new second hand drum carder, which is very exciting. I probably won’t be able to have a go with it till Weds but am really looking forward to having a play as I’ve never even used one before. It comes with a stash of wool, mostly dyed merino I think, some of which is rather tired. Obviously been hanging around for a long time and has that flat, matted feel (difficult to pull wool off the roving). I’m hoping the drum carder will be just the thing to give it a new lease of life. Has anyone any experience of using this type of wool with a carder?

Wheeeee! Have fun with the drum carder. I have carded this type of wool into lovely new batts, mixing colors, adding other fibers such as silk. Works great to rejuvenate the wool. I pull it apart into small bits as I card.
Wish I could visit World of Wool, sounds heavenly.

Enjoy your new carder Lindsay. Ruth’s advice is right on otherwise you end up struggling with the carder.

Lucky you Lindsay. I am very envois that you get to go to world of wool. When I have wool like that I strip it into skinny lengths so it will go through the carder better. It always needs twice through to get rid of the ropes. Remember less is more when feeding it in. I still have a hard time not being to enthusiastic with the wool. If you skip the infeed drum and put it directly on the big drum you can get almost the same thing as a blending board. My plan for my daily dose today is to do the felting part of felted soap while watching TV tonight.

Hope your soap felting went well, Ann. I delivered my most recent commission this morning (the penguins I’ve posted previously). There were tears (happy, I think!) so that went well. Both commissioner and recipient seemed really delighted, which was lovely. They were already trying it in different wall positions before I left. Well worth the work.

Great Lyndsay, we told you they would love it. I did get my soap felted and my dose wasn't really fiber it was wrestling with the computer to make new tags and have them print properly. I think I have it now.

Great Lyndsay, we told you they would love it. I did get my soap felted and my dose wasn't really fiber it was wrestling with the computer to make new tags and have them print properly. I think I have it now. That’s one of the worst things - I spend so long trying to get my laptop and printer to talk to each other. And then suddenly the printing goes all fuzzy and I’ve wasted yet more photo paper or sheets of labels. Grrrrrr.

I got it sorted. Although they look exactly the same it seems I had an Asian version of the blank tag so it was printing the last tag half off the page. I found the American version and now it's all good. I am not sure why my program thinks I might need the Asian one.

I like the idea of the multi-cultural printer: I’d be less fed up with mine if I thought it was a cultural misunderstanding! I spent hours yesterday trying to sort mine out so I could print some cards. Got there I’m the end but wasted a lot of time, paper, ink and patience.
