In Ruth's latest forum blog post she wrote: "Do you have a group of people who you create with? We’d love to hear about it over on the free forum." I get together once a week for a couple of hours with a small local craft group. It's not just about crafting it's great to to have somewhere to go to be with like-minded people and have a natter and a laugh. Anyone with a skill to share does so. Failing that we get inspiration from Pinterest! One of the 'girls' is an enthusiastic beader and she guided us through making a spider and a simple beaded Christmas tree bauble. My beading skills need honing for sure, but I enjoyed it! There is a stash of 'making stuff' and we are encouraged to make anything using socks, bits of trimmings etc. We've made sock owls and dozens of sock snowmen. Skills shared include nail art, paper folding, knitting, sewing, beading, picture frame and mirror embellishment, and the list goes on. If you know of a local craft group do go along! Here are links to four photos: baublespidersnowmenowl

Lyn,
Your group sounds like a lot of fun. And it's great learning new skills, no matter what the media. I am not seeing your photos, not sure what the issue is. I would love to see what your group has created. How did you find out about them?

The links work great, thanks for doing that. Those are really fun. My favorites are the owl and the spider. The spider would be great for Halloween

Lyn, the links aren’t working for me, perhaps because I’m on an iPad. I would love to be part of a creative group in real time. Right now, this is my creative group. :-)

Sorry folks. Had a notice when I tried to sign in to rectify the problem with images - Ipernity has closed my account - no idea why. So I've put the photos on rosie's ipernity: baublesnowmenowlspider

How lovely to sit natter and create with other people. I share my crafting time with two Labradors! I like what you have created Lyn, the snowmen are 'you', remind me of one of your Christmas cards one year?

And the walking keeps you fit - I've turned into a right potato now I have no dogs to walk. When I made the snowmen like that the other 'girls' (having followed the pinterest pattern precisely) weren't quite sure what to make of them. But I like quirky.

An interesting discussion. There are groups for specific crafts where I live but I haven’t joined anything yet. The one that most attracts me is the Profanity Embroidery Group. They have some internet presence but be warned - only look them up if you don’t mind a lot of swearing, as the name suggests! I’m not aware of any general crafts groups. I tend to get my group fix from playing a massive drum in a community samba band and as part of a long-standing book group.
Funnily enough it’s a craft group from my childhood that led me into felting. I met up with a childhood friend who’d contacted me through Facebook many years after we’d lost touch. We used to run a school craft group, partly because we enjoyed that stuff and partly because it got us into lunch early! We’d both continued to make things but she’d done more courses and workshops whereas I was mostly self-taught. As a result I decided I’d like to do a workshop in something & it happened that wet felting was the first thing that came up.

(Oh dear, I really didn’t intend that pun).

I think I like the owl the best. I get together with my guild. we are mostly spinning and weaving and felting but people bring other thing and we all do other things. Someone always seems to know how to do whatever you ate trying to figure out no matter the medium. Lyn did you contact them to see what happened.

No I didn't Ann - I'll just use rosie's ipernity for the odd photo. I hardly used my own ipernity so perhaps that's why I was chucked off so unceremoniously when I posted those 4 photos to my account after a long absence.
