Lyn can you please shed more light on your reply to my comment on your blog? You mentioned standard white merino and brilliant white merino, preferring standard. I buy Lightening white from WOW, do you mean their Pearl or are you using someone elses? Just curious.

Lyn can you please shed more light on your reply to my comment on your blog? You mentioned standard white merino and brilliant white merino, preferring standard. I buy Lightening white from WOW, do you mean their Pearl or are you using someone elses? Just curious. I buy most of my merino wool from World of Wool and Wingham Wool. When I started felting I could only buy white merino wool that I would say looked just a bit 'off-white' so when the big companies introduced a bright white I couldn't wait to try it. It's useful, don't get me wrong. For example when I made the Japanese challenge piece and I needed different whites... link...but I prefer the bog standard white for felting - I find that it felts easier. I usually reserve the use of the 'whitened' white for embellishment. This is just my opinion and of course it's always going to be 'each to her own'.

I use the lightening quite often but have been surprised recently at how different it looks in outdoor natural light - almost florescent. So I'm leaning towards using more of the 'bog standard' as described by Lyn - although somehow I don't think that's the World of Wool colour name!
