My daily dose was to pop in to say hello to my friends/artists at the craft fair that I attend. I have three dates booked in the next five weeks and I went to ask if any more are available to me. So I came out with another six extra dates stretching to the end of the year! I also have three booked elsewhere in November/December.
I am going to be a busy lady - great! I do however have all of October free of a fair - for now....

Phew - makes me feel exhausted just to read about all the dates you have booked! Much better to be busy though isn't it?

I have said it before Lindsay but that is one great hut, a lovely venue if the weather is kind of course. How lovely to be there chatting to customers enjoying the weather we are having. I like your photography as well as your felting. Good luck I hope you sell well. Thanks, Tracey Yes, it’s a great hut and indeed a nice community. There are about 30 huts altogether selling mostly art & craft work but also delicious food, vintage & handmade clothes and so on. Some huts are let permanently & others are pop-ups hired for anything from one weekend to a couple of months. Everyone’s friendly & we cover for each other when someone wants to grab some food or whatever. It’s right on the working Harbour which is picturesque and always full of activity. Yesterday I sold one large felted picture of a ringed plover & 2 felt pieces on canvas with little pockets for air plants (posted somewhere on these boards previously) in the first hour. Then nothing but 1 card for the rest of the day! However, as we know, you do generate future sales. I had a serious query about a commission and the ringed plover people first saw it on Thursday & came back yesterday so it’s worth being there even when things seem slow. The forecast remains hot & sunny for the next 3 days so fingers crossed for further sales & interest........

Woo Hoo! great news on the large picture sale, nice one! I bet you were thrilled. Great you sold a little more too, better than nothing at all for the whole day.
I would love to look around the food huts too, it all sounds wonderful. Keep going!

I am very lucky to have been accepted into this particular fair, they are lovely people and we get a steady turnover of tourists coming through, so it never feels stale.

Great job Lindsay on your sale! And yes, people do come back after "thinking about it" to buy. We get that all the time in my store.

It looks fabulous Lindsay. I showed my husband and he thought it was great. We don't have huts on our beaches. I think it's a great idea. Have you been getting lots of traffic?
I am editing in more now I red the next page. Its great that you sold a big piece. It is so satisfying when people do come back and buy something. Tracy You are going to be very busy . I am feeling busy and I only have 3 shows this fall.

Thank you, Ann. If it passed the husband test then that’s a great compliment!
Yes, it feels great when people buy a big picture. They are fairly large (64 x 64 cm / about 25.2 inches square) and comparatively expensive so people don’t buy them lightly and I love it when they feel strongly enough about a picture that they want to invest in it and live with it in their homes. The first couple of times I wanted to say ‘are you sure?’ but I’m trying to shake that habit. Of course, I also like it when people buy a photograph or smaller felt piece and indeed even when they don’t buy anything but clearly like what I do and want to chat about it.
I didn’t sell much today but had some really good conversations and came home to find someone I talked to yesterday wanted to book into my first 1 day workshop in October so it’s all time well spent. Having said that, I’m packing up tomorrow and quite looking forward to getting back to a little quiet making in the studio.

Yes, it’s an introduction to wet feltiing and we’ll focus on basic techniques to produce some flat felt. I think I have the flyer on Facebook so I’ll post it in a sec. The plan is to make some prefelt so people can experiment with colours and adding yarns, silk, different fibres etc and then to use the prefelt to decorate their final piece. I’m suggesting coasters, bookmarks or a placemat but basically a single piece that can be cut up or not as they wish. I’m also doing printed instructions with photos to help them do more at home if they want to. I have 3 people booked in so far (it’s in October) and one possible. Max will be 8.
I’ve thought it all through quite carefully but it’s really hard to know how long it will take people to do things! Hopefully I’m building in enough flexibility to accommodate people working at different paces.

That looks great Lindsay. Regarding the pace of how people work, yes it is the unknown, a suck it and see experience. If you are not running to plan you will have to play catch up, maybe shorten lunch time etc. As it is your first time, you will no doubt be able to change or refine things if needed for future classes, but it may go like clockwork obviously!

Timing is a hard one but you will get the flow of things as you do it more. I am sure you will do fine. My timing was off with the intermediate class I taught. But some people were not really as far along the felt learning curve as I would have liked them to be.

That is always the issue with a class when you have people that are at different skill levels. And as you say, timing is difficult to master.
