I have never had a go with Solvy water soluble film, I know others have here. What is the preferred method of removal? I saw one tutorial that was soak project in hot water, put in washing machine (with towels) then the dryer, others say pull it away and soak.

There are several different kinds and all might have different instructions. I usually cut away as much as I can and then soak in hot water. The water soluble film melts away. I actually prefer the water soluble "fabric" as it washes away more easily than the film, especially the thicker stuff.

I've used Solvy and I just trimmed away the excess, flopped it about in a couple of changes of water then blotted it between sheets of kitchen paper.

Thanks Ruth and Lyn.
The 'fabric' you refer to Ruth, still see through I guess? The project I was looking at free motion embroidered onto the solvy, but you need to see the fabric underneath to create the work.

Nope, the fabric is white and not really see through. You would be able to see big shapes that have high contrast in colors. So you'll need to use the clear film if you need to see through it. You can draw on the fabric with pen or pencil to draw a design if you need that.

I used teh white fabric so I could draw the design on it. drawing on felt is to hard. I just soaked it in t hot water for a bout a min. One I did faster and the dissolved fabric stayed in the threads making it stiff. I just resoaked it but if you wanted to stiffen it it would be a good way. I haven't tried the film. I should have some from Ruths class but I couldn't find it.

It does work really well as a stiffener if you need that effect. I have made thread and felt scrap bowls that way.

I didn't watch the entire video but I wouldn't think you would need to see through the water soluble. You just need to do a lot of stitching so that everything stays together.
