While going thru my wool stash, I found a pound of short fiber merino. I'm not sure what to do with it. I'm a wet felter/nuno felter and it seems the fibers would be too short to make a sturdy piece of felt. Do any of you have experience using short fiber merino? Any ideas as to what I could make with it? Thanks so much!

Short staple merino I use is mostly not in tops but in batts. It makes very smooth and sturdy felt, great for felt sculptures and interior pieces (could see examples in my ETSY shop). My favourite is Kap Merino with extremely short fibres. Not sure it's good to make nuno felting items or scarves.

I've used short fiber merino for jewelry, as well as sculptural pieces. It felts fine and feels great next to the skin.

Try a sample, I think you'll like it. It does make great jewelry, ropes, spikes. Anything that you want felted hard and smooth. Even though the fibers are short, they felt together firmly and give a smooth surface. Also they felt very quickly. We'd love to see what you create.

Thank you so much ladies! Felicity, you're right, what I have looks like a batt. Your Etsy site is gorgeous! I have always wanted to felt a sculpture. Now I have no excuses not to make one. Shana, jewelry - that's a grand idea! Ruth, you certainly are getting my wheels in my noggin spinning. What great ideas you all presented. I'm off to research Kap Merino. You're all the best.....thank you! Mags
