Thanks, all. The Harbour Gallery (aka Hut 23) is a fun place and there’s little better than that view of the harbour on a nice day. It’s a little village of huts with an emphasis on handmade stuff and some excellent food - a nice community. I had 3 separate weeks there in the latter end of last year and sold well. For the sake of completeness, here’s a picture of the section of sari that has metallic embroidery. It’s surprising soft and has felted well though I’m not sure I’ve exactly improved the original. www.ipernity.com/doc/2373440/46485690All good learning.

I like that look, much more "impressionistic".

I love how it came out. Have you decided in a project for it? Or still sampling?

I love how it came out. Have you decided in a project for it? Or still sampling? That was my last bit of sampling. I think I’m going for a scarf in the near future but will have to wait till I’m ready to do a wool order as I don’t have enough of that colour and I like the way the closeness of the colours of silk and wool emphasiises the bubbly texture. I may go for a plain scarf with some more decorative sections on the ends. The samples feel particularly light so it should be lovely to wear. In the longer term I really like the bag / bag lining idea so when I’ve got a bit more time I will look into that - it needs more thinking, learning and planning than I can do at the moment. Thanks all for your ideas, comments, examples & encouragement. There’s about 6 metres of the fabric so plenty of material for lots of projects. I will post a picture when I make something

What a great little hut gallery. Thats the kind of time share I would like. The easiest thing to do when making a lining is to use some big basting stiches to join the sides of the fabric at the edge of the resist. that way it doesn't shift when you are laying out the wool.

The samples look terrific, as does the beach hut gallery! What a great idea. Coincidentally I've just been making sari silk samples and was amazed how well they felted, including the metallic bits! I'm thinking of making a bag too, but with the silk on the outside ... Guess it might not wear very well though! Hmm... would be pretty while it lasted though!

I think the sari silk would wear well on the outside of a bag as long as it is well felted in. When I have used nuno felting on the outside of slippers, they have worn much better than without.

Good point Lyn! :-) And then maybe i could turn it inside out and use it as a lining in another bag, if it got a bit tatty!

Yesterday I finally found time to make a plain raspberry coloured scarf with one section of the sari. www.ipernity.com/doc/2373440/46777660I’m pleased with how it turned out in spite of an unsuccessful attempt to use a sander though I must have used more wool than I did with the sample. If I do another I’ll try to lay out the wool in a slightly finer layer.

The texture is amazing and what a beautiful colour! Thank you, Lyn. I love the colour too which is why I decided on a single solid colour. Maybe next time I’ll add some of the metallic bits.
