thanks Lyn. Felicity... they are not too hard to put in yourself, a bit of sample felt the same as what you want to put them in...and a dozen attempts and you should have it sorted....the press itself was surprisingly cheap given it is a tool/machine...I bought mine in NZ but have seen the same on Aliexpress...some sites offer free shipping...is cast iron so pretty heavy shipping. I use it to set rivets too...which is my usual way to attach bag straps

Thanks Ruth..Natalya is an excellent tutor with a background cobbler's knowledge and very thorough in teaching...I came away from the workshop confident I could make quality boots...they are quite a mission though!!

Great looking boots. I need to make another attempt at them. It has been a while since I tried and I have more experience now. they turned out as they should but there where a couple more measurements I would make that were not in the class instructions. It was an early on line class.

Ann...I think like any felting we learn from a tutorial there is still more to adjust and tweak to as we become more familiar with the process. Even with the extremely thorough instruction I got on the workshop, I find I am making my own adjustments to the pattern. I find getting a generous allowance over the arch of the foot important...my own arches are very high and the boot gapes at the base of the opening on my 1st attempt...and my daughters foot is very wide...which also made the boot gape in the same place. I am now giving all boots extra allowance there...people don't seem to complain if the boot is wide - but they do if it is too narrow.

Looking back it wasn't really a good boot shape that we made. I have wide feet but find most shoes and boots do not have enough going over the top of the foot. she also put all the ease for your calf in the front. It was odd but it was all there was at the time.

I found a boot pattern online a while back that had similar pattern to that we used in the workshop...I will see if I can find it for you and post as a new thread...it may take a while to find. My own notes take a small notebook and I think it would be too confusing!!!

Wow, I love your boots! I’ve made slippers with felted soles but it always takes me a while to recover from the effort involved in fulling them fully. I’ve never tried adding eyelets, laces and soles to make boots although it is on my long list of things I must try sometime!

Dottyhen...yes... the work in a pair of boots is huge.... I full them probably twice as hard as I do slippers to try and get them as dense and waterproof as possible...and still now I think I should do them longer...but I have to say the effort is absolutely worth it. I have made 2 pairs for myself (more for others)...and I have worn mine every time I went out this winter... don't want to wear other winter shoes now. They are so warm and comfortable....like wearing your slippers all day in town!!
