My daughter, Annie, has just made a wintery scene with handmade felt from merino wool and scrim and odd bits and pieces, then she used stitching to create her picture.

A lovely textured piece, please pass on my admiration to Annie. I think I enjoy seeing nature in it's bare form when it is coming to the end of it's life, a little more than at the beginning somehow. Especially with a dusting of frost on it, not so keen on the cold mind!

It is beautiful! Makes you hear the snow as you walk and take in the beauty a winter morning. Wonderful use of texture.

Great piece. She has an artists eye. I would look at that felt and have no idea what the stitch on it.

What a great piece, I love how she has layered the merino and scrim to create a frosty effect.

Hi Lyn, this is beautiful! Please pass warm regards to Annie for her work. I really like the red on the bird and the little heart in the corner, as well as the white stitches on top of the dark ones to look like a layer of frost or snow.

This is really wonderful. Both Lyn and Annie's work inspires me to do machine stitching--but I'm too afraid! :-)

This is really wonderful. Both Lyn and Annie's work inspires me to do machine stitching--but I'm too afraid! :-) Please do try - grab an old piece of felt and iron on a piece of stabiliser to the back of it. Drop the feed-dogs on your sewing machine, fit a darning foot, set stitch length to zero then go for it! What do you have to lose? You'd be surprised at how easy it is!

It is scary, but just try it and practice. I’m no expert, but Ruth offers an online course that would help get you in the groove. I took it and feel a bit more confident.
