I have thought of buying labels, printed or woven, but I never seem to get round to it. Ruth do you just steam the label after printing? do you soak it with acid water first?

I have never made labels Ann, but you do need to steam the acid dyes. Is the fabric cotton? If so, I would use fiber reactive dyes instead of acid dyes. Then you wouldn't need to steam it. I put the acid into the print paste so I don't have to add it to the fabric and you can stamp on dry fabric easily that way.
