Thanks Ann. I will keep going with them then until I get fed up which may be some time as they are satisfying to make. I do think they will be a good seller, appealing to people who don't want to spend much.

Sorry to be a voice of dissent!
I made a pretty basket of soaps, some brightly coloured, some subtle & 'pebble' like. I took them to 3 or 4 fairs & didn't sell any. & I had them very cheap (certainly by the last 2 fairs)! Other things did sell, so it wasn't that people weren't buying. A couple of people I asked just said 'everyone uses liquid soap these days', which is perhaps true-ish. Sorry, don't mean to put you off Tracey.

Sorry to hear that soaps didn't sell Jill! I think it's just a different market. From my experience here in Britain soaps sell. I do not make them but saw the other felters selling them OK. Anyway, Tracey will try and tell us

I think half the battle is making sure that people know what they are and the benefits.
A pretty notice could include words such as:
#Soap with a wool covering #Makes a lovely gift #Easy to hold and use - very young or arthritic hands sometimes find soap bars too slippery #Good for getting very dirty hands clean #Lasts longer with the wool covering #Stays put on the side of the sink and looks pretty

Thanks ladies, wonderful advice as usual!
I now remember this dilemma popping up on here a while back regarding the increased usage of liquid soap over bar soap. I can only find statistics from 2015, saying liquid soap had a 62% share of the market, It may be more now of course.
No problem Jill, you haven't put me off, it is valuable to hear everyone's experiences. I am hoping the soaps will sell as a 'pocket money' item.
Lyn, can I employ you as my marketing manager ?!, great straplines thank you, I will be using them!

Great Lyn, & I think I have seen someone who'd made up a paper label & attached to each soap explaining this, & saying 'soap & flannel all-in-1' (/facecloth/whatever word Americans use for flannel in this usage!)

Everyone's experiences are important to hear. I am sorry the soap didn't work out for you.

Even if someone gifts the soap and they don't use them, it makes for a pretty decoration and a nice smell in the bathroom. :-)

Talking about felted soaps - have a look at this Pinterest Board , some soaps are very inspiring! This ONE is my favourite.

Oh there are some real beauties there! When I made soaps to sell I just did a quick wrap (as in the tutorial) to keep costs down. Some of those soaps must have taken a lot of time to make.

Some of those soaps must have taken a lot of time to make. It's for sure! But they look so nice!

Very nice but as Lyn says that really adds a lot of time to making them if you're selling. Reminds me of my cat toys. I could spend tons of time adding lots of designs but they are just plain colors because I don't want to add anymore time than I already spend.

On a similar theme. I could be tempted to make just a few more soaps as I dug these little wooden tree tags out of my stash. I am thinking make the soap look Christmassy and thread a tag onto the ribbon. As I guess the soaps will be sold around the £3 mark, I do not want to be spending my time needle felting Santa, a sleigh and all the reindeers on it! Any suggestions to designs? The only thing I can come up with is a prefelt sprig of holly maybe? www.dropbox.com/s/uwkl9ok7wlo7n2d/20170830_182903.jpg?dl=0
