HI everyone
I have watched every video on you tube and studied a lot how the felting process is
i have used gauze that i think it is 100% cotton but not sure. used down liquid soap and cold water ( have realized when soap make much suds felting process not good )
the tool i have used to roll is a small tube made of cardboard ( empty from paper towels )
cold water.
[/ul][/font] the problem i have is that the wool doesn't felt , is like you grab and all the fibers come apart. i will do it one more time , this time i will go get the olive oils soap and will get a stronger wool roller. will show pictures of my step by step and if anyone of you see any mistake in my process let me know . i am trying to create some shirts with leather on my design and one part will have a felted fabric with many colors . THANKS!!!! FELTMYSOUL

Hi! If it's your first experience in nunofelting, why do not try to make a sample in as conventional way as possible: - use fine merino wool (you didn't mention what wool you are working with); - use a piece of thin/loose weave silk; - rub the fabric (laid on the wool) until you notice the fibres(wool)going through fabric; - roll with a roller such as plastic pipe insulation or just a broom's handle. As soon as you are OK with the basics proceed to a larger project you've described. It's too many things which could go wrong so it's better to deal with a smaller piece first.

I do not know what the down soap is but most of soaps will do I suppose. I've seen brilliant results with the use of Fairy washing liquid . Water should not be hot or very cold. The cotton fabric could be tricky if it's of tight weave. What I'd worry about is as you've described: "wool doesn't felt , is like you grab and all the fibers come apart." Have you tried to felt just wool to be sure it felts at all?

Where are you located Feltmysoul? There are plenty of online sources for materials. You're probably wise trying the cheesecloth before investing in silk. Let us know how the wool, felts on its own.

My thought is that you have superwash wool. I like to roll in a stick blind or seed mat rather than bubble wrap for nuno felt.

yes i have super wash wool is very very thin i put the bubble plastic under as videos i have watched i put the wool i put fabric i put wool again in two direction then i put a mesh ...
and water with soap and start rolling then take mesh of and put more soap and rubb it
then i feel is too much water i put a towel to absorb water and when i take it off the towel ( this is when my heart melt) all the fibers start to come apart and looks messy ... i will do one more time step by step see what happens 😀😀😀😀😀😀🙌🏻🙌🏻🙌🏻🙌🏻

Superwash wool doesn't felt! It's goid for spinning only. I'm very sorry but you will have to change the wool first.

Superwash wool is treated so it won't felt. You will never get it to felt as it has a chemical treatment to prevent the felting process. You need to get wool that is not superwash.

I read your post earlier & suddenly I thought 'superwash' - & I see others have already discovered the same! No, superwash will not felt at all. Throw it away & get some simple merino & you will see what felt is meant to do!

i put the wool i put fabric i put wool again in two direction then i put a mesh ... May I ask why you place the fabric inside of the wool layers? Is it some specific design? Usually the fabric is on the top of the wool to create some surface texture...

GOSH!!! aleluya!! we find the problem ... thanks this forum and you girls .. yes
i did not pay attention and i ordered a rovin for spin but i never thought that wool for spin wont felt ... .. i dont want to trow it away it is super beautiful color i might have to re sell it on internet which i doubt , do you think it can work for texture?
please give me a site or a store on ETSY where i can get the wool , so it is not super wash ..
i put the fabric in the middle because i wanted to have in some areas both sides and also i though that fibers can Hugh each other trough the fabric and be more strong...
i am so happy i found out the problem .
