Just back from a week long creative retreat called Grampians Textures. It is an annual retreat held in the Victorian town of Halls Gap in the Grampians about 3 hours from Melbourne. 450 creatives tutored by 20 local and International tutors had a ball. I made two hats and a silk sandwich "Swing" jacket. Here's a pic of me in one of the hats and my jacket with my tutor Jean Gauger from USA. Lovely teacher. The jacket was still wet at that stage and needs a catch/large button on the front and now I am home will find the perfect piece to finish it off. Save

OOOOOOOOOOOH! Your jacket is gorgeous -- the colors are spectacular! Can you expand on what a "silk sandwich" is? What fun to be able to attend such a retreat!

Hi Magzie, Yes it was fun. A silk sandwich is just what it sounds like, silk first then a single layer of fleece then full silk collage on outside with no fleece exposed (could be single silk piece, but I saw a canvas for collage and used up lots of silk scarves found at op shops in the process! LOL My size is XL so it was pretty big until shrinkage and took up two full tables in width and length. It is lovely and supple, not too heavy, will never pill and swings nicely. I will do another in Autumn tones soon as I have 5kg of a darkish green fleece to use up - funnily enough the name of the fleece colour is "Pond Scum" --urk! LOL - but it will go nicely with browns and golds in silks.

What a super jacket, Chookie, I love that style & Jean Gauger - wow, star teacher.
A lot of work, I'm sure, I haven't tried anything sleeved yet, just armless things seem so big! Well done, sounds like a wonderful time

That's a lot of work Sue - the start size is staggering isn't it? The style is pretty, the colours are divine and the jacket and hat really do suit you. The retreat must have been wonderful!

LOL Ann,Love that term Rubenesque. After a week of felting I wasn't at my best for pics but a few hours later was worse as I fell and pinched a nerve in my back...took me a week to move properly again- all worth it though.
Zed that "Pond Scum" you are right is a nice dark almost 'British Racing Green' but a bit more into murky than that.
Than you everyone for the positive comments, it was a blast if exhausting week.Next year I will take better accommodation - a Scool camp bunkhouse with school type shower block was not conducive to good rest at the end of hard days of felting. The surrounds were wonderful though. There is plenty of better choices for accom so I will be more selective next year-I simply took what was offered this year - now I know better what to look for - yes will definitely go again.

I was registered for her class here several years ago, but it was cancelled. :-( I don't know now if I could handle that much in a couple of days. I'll have to try on my own sometime.

Wow! What an amazing jacket, the colours are divine and I can imagine how much work went into it. The hat tops it off perfectly. Hope your back improves so you can dive into your "Pond Scum".
