Hello everyone! My name is Trish and I was an aircraft mechanic for 18 years. My last aviation job was management oversite of the aircrafts being worked for cost and schedule until the contract went to another contractor. I have been fortunate to choose to stay home since being laid off in 2010. My father taught us to crochet when we were young girls. I just started dabbling in felt for about a year. Time isn't as plentiful as it was cause now I am working on getting a rent house ready for future retirement funds. I have always been good working with my hands. I look forward to the education and posts on fiber felting! I will be attending my first fiber festival next month. There is not much out there in my area on felting or classes. I look forward to meeting new people!

Hi there, and welcome from another newbie here at the forum. I can only support Tracey - everyone here really are supportive and positive, as well as giving advice when needed. I hope you'll thrive here as much as I do.
What kind of felting have you done, Trish?

I have mostly needle felted a few things. A mouse or should I say it looks more like a rat, a rabbit, and I tried to make a Jimi Hendrix that looks more like some black wirey blues cartoon creature lol. They are certainly not impressive by any means lol, but I am studying. I am so very glad to have found this forum cause there are NO magazines or thorough books that I could find anywhere here. I have been intrigued reading all the posts.

Trish, I am sure your pieces would be impressive to many people. As long as you are enjoying what you are doing, and learning along the way, that is what really matters. Keep having fun!

Hi Trish, welcome to the forum I agree everyone's friendly, and helpful so feel free to show your stuff, ask questions. I think a lot of us found there were no books or info out there when we started (one of the reasons we started the site/blog and forum) so learned by trial and error, there's always someone with a different method or technique, so lots of tips and advice.

Welcome. I bet you find some nice local sources for fiber and some other felters when you go to the festival. A very friendly and helpful bunch her as everyone has said. We all started at the beginning. A black wiry blues cartoon. That sounds interesting. At least you got the major components. I am not good at anything realistic looking. I go more into abstracts.

Welcome, Trish! My son lives outside of Houston and LOVES TEXAS even though he was born and raised in Chicago!! I don't know much about the fiber community in your area, but willing to guess you will find something. Good luck!

Hi Trish!! I'm up here in Dallas, so I feel your pain about not much of a felting community. I know of a woman here who often has classes, if that's an option for you. I get most of my supplies on-line. Your aviation background it cool!! I used to have my license, until I realized that I'm not good in emergencies. My DH flies and we have a little bug-smasher hangared at Lancaster. Let me know how I can help here in TX.

Since the forum goddesses prefer not to toot their own horns, they often have on-line classes, so check them out. Also, check out Ruth Lane's book The complete photo guide to felting. It's great.
