I set myself a challenge: to interpret the four elements (earth, water, fire and air) in felting. I've come as far as "earth" and "water", and asked for ideas for "air" under the section Wet-felting.
feltandfiberstudio.proboards.com/thread/3226/felting-4-elementsSeveral of you have come up with some good ideas in that thread, and prompted by Zed, I thought some of you might like to join me in this challenge. So, is anyone up for an extra challenge this year on the theme EARTH, WATER, FIRE and AIR? It would be really interesting to see how you all would interpret this using any or all techniques of felting and/or mixed media. I may have a head's start on you, but I broke my left wrist a couple of days ago so I now have a cast on my left arm, which definitely makes felting a bit difficult for the next 5-6 weeks... So there is plenty of time to catch up... ;-)

Thanks Ruth! At least is was my left, and not my right (I am right-handed). But it certainly makes you realize how much easier life is with two hands...

I'd definitely like to join it that challenge, what a great idea, immediately I can see 4 abstract images. So sorry to hear about your wrist, that will be very frustrating, but please do use it to excuse yourself from most household duties lol. Time for your husband to cook, clean & wash up for a few weeks!

Glad to hear that Jill, and looking forward to seeing your abstract images!
Husband does do most of the cooking anyhow, but now asks if there isn't some sort of machine that we could buy to hang the washing... ;-) My fracture has turned out to be unstable, so surgery needed. Was scheduled for surgery yesterday, but it got cancelled due to more urgent cases. Now scheduled for Monday. Frustrating to have to start all over, as by then I will have had the cast for 2 week already, but glad they caught the "unstableness" so that it doesn't heal in an incorrect position. And again, glad it's my left and not my right wrist!

Good luck next week Zara. Even though it's a setback at least they caught it before it healed improperly.

Oh no. Sending you best wishes for a successful surgery & hope it's a smooth & non painful recovery, poor you. Not much felting will be happening there for a while

Yes good luck Zara, I'm sure it will all be sorted quickly and you will be back to normality (felting, felting, felting, oh and the tiresome things) soon.

Good luck on Monday Zara and glad to hear that hubby is helping out with all things domestic, but I'm with him on wanting something to hang out washing - whatever it is can it also iron and put away too :-)
I like the idea of this challenge if I can get the time I may join in :-)

How did it go Zara? it fell with or against? I will do the water first. I love water, i am a 'fish' astrologically, i live on a canal and between lakes. I like to walk on the beach, and swim in the sea. I have already been busy, it has to dry and maybe tomorrow I can make a beatiful picture. But it is in 3D, is that alright too ?

Viltmaaraan - 3D sounds very interesting! I'm looking forward to seeing what you have done. :-)
Carole - glad to hear you might join the challenge too! :-)
Thanks for all your thoughts and best wishes! I finally got the surgery done yesterday (it got cancelled again on Monday), so I now have a metal plate and a number of screws holding my wrist together. The cast will be removed after 2 weeks, I'm not allowed to lift anything heavy for 6 weeks, or do any horseback riding for 3 months (!) before the bone has healed. But luckily, wool isn't heavy, and perhaps felting (at least smaller pieces) will be a good way to train my hand and wrist, to build up strength and flexibility again...? ;-)
