Zara, please may I ask what constitutes the background to the shell section on your water element picture? Glad you asked before I forget. ;-) From bottom to top layer: White merino, wisps of brown and white Finnish fine wool, silk noil, a piece of unbleached cotton fabric (loose weave, almost like gauze), a little more silk noil and a few wisps of wool on top. I think that was all in the "beach corner". There are photos of the process on my blog: zararooke.com/2017/02/04/tovade-element-jord-och-vatten/

A friend has given me a pot of exquisite New Zealand shells she has collected. I would love to produce something like this. I hope your poor wrist heals soon!

Thanks Tracy. If you plan on felting a beach/sea piece, you may as well join me in this challenge on the theme of the 4 elements. ;-) I have posted this as a challenge under the heading "Other challenges" here on the forum. feltandfiberstudio.proboards.com/thread/3227/elements-challengeIt would be fun to see other interpretations of earth, water, fire and air. :-)

I've been thinking about 'air' and your idea of a sunset and then I thought of the wonderful shapes the silhouette of ducks make flying in formation across a sunset over the sea, I live by the sea so I see this a lot and it is beautiful, the birds could just be suggested by darker 'v' shapes.

Nice work Carol! Your wood landscape image more or less has all the 4 elements. The trees and landscape (Earth), the water, the sky with clouds (air) and an orange "fire" in the sky. :-)

You are right, it does, I do like playing around with imagery and putting my own slant on it

Stunning, Zara. I can definitely see a pale grey/blue sky with lots of white texture - silk, hankies, nubs, locks. your Scandi-chic will shine through I'm sure.

My first thought for 'air' was clouds. It's always pretty windy here (it's quite odd and eerie when it isn't!) and usually cloudy, I love watching the clouds when it's really windy and they race across the sky. I love the dandelion idea, it reminded me of those kinetic? sculptures, and made me think you could do something 3D. I've done spirals to spin in the wind, they work well. But the balloon one could be a better 3D idea, a bunch or a hot air balloon with a little basket? Here's one of those sculptures www.youtube.com/watch?v=6RNkz4l2NC0

Oh! A wind sock! We had gusts of over 70mph last week during Storm Doris and I wished we still had the kids' 'toy' wind sock out in the garden. It had ribbon strips at the end, but they could be swapped for wool locks
