Pardon the whine and 'pitiful me' that follows.
I was laid off (made redundant) Monday last week. While it was not unexpected (2 companies merging) or unwanted (I'd like to 'downsize' my job), it's demoralizing to essentially be told that you're the most expendable person.
So, instead of using this time to CREATE, I just keep curling up with the cats and a book, or the cats and trashy TV, or the cats and napping.
You all keep creating and I'll keep lurking and I'm sure something will inspire me.

Monday last week is not that long! And the time of year is not very inspiring either. You just need some time to recover I think!

I'm sorry to hear that Elizabeth. Are you searching for another job? Sometimes you need some rest before your creative brain gets started again. Another way to jump start something is just to make stuff. Don't worry about how creative or wonderful it is, just make something. Just get into your studio and put some fibers together and have fun experimenting.

That's a toughy Elizabeth. I'm sure your cats are enjoying your company, but I hope something comes your way soon.

I empathise Elizabeth as I've had times like that.
Ruth's advice is good.

Sorry to hear that Elizabeth. Been there done that. Staying busy will help and the creativity will still be there when you're ready. Hang in there!

So feeling sorry for your job loss, Elizabeth. Sometimes life really sucks!
In the meantime, cats are very comforting, I agree. And you will snap out of it sooner than it seems possible.

Sorry Elizabeth. I know we can't help but take things personally, but know that in these circumstance, the job decisions really are financial, not about the people. Hopefully later it will come to feel like a good thing. & for now... I say don't beat yourself up about spending quiet time at home, why shouldn't you? I bet you have worked hard for many years, so enjoy some downtime without any guilt. Recharge & refresh.

I know how you feel Elizabeth. The same happened to me a few years ago. Our Job is a bigger part of identities that we realise sometimes. If nothing else they are a big part of our day most days.It takes time. Take some time to feel sorry for yourself and be angry and then stand up and take a step forward.Your profile says you live in a cool and funky suburb. Get out and walk around it. It gets better. Further to Ruth's suggestion: Now when your don't feel creative is the time to make the samples you meant to make but didn't have time for. Listen to a book or some music while your at it.

That happened to me many years ago and turned out to be the best thing that ever happened to me. Forced me to open new doors. I know you feel crappy now. Think about something you have been wanting to do but have been too busy because of your work schedule. Maybe it is organizing and cleaning out a closet (always makes me feel good because I see the results immediately), go to that store or restaurant you pass and never have time to stop at, call a friend you do not get to see or talk to often and make a lunch date, etc.
Hope you find your happy place soon!

Empathy Elizabeth, Although not unexpected, it's still been a shock for you and your routine has been thrown into disarray. Your muse will return, it's just resting; as they say in the world of theatre.

Sorry to hear this Elisabeth. But as God shuts one door he also opens another. I'm sure you'll come out of this and be happy again. We felters are lucky in that wool is such a wonderful healing medium. Just do some felting (this is what I do on my down days).

Thanks, everyone. It is indeed a time to look for new things. I definitely do NOT want to go back to what I was doing for a for-profit company. I'm looking at using my skills in the non-profit area for an organization that is more aligned with my heart. Goodness knows, there's a need for that just now. Or, I've even thought about working at a garden center, or a bar!
