myalbum.com/album/bXZl7QHfVU7DA few years ago I was in Egypt and bought a few fine woven cotton shawls. I like to use them for nunofelting and now I had 1 left over. Although I am very busy felting a coat from wool and alpaca fiber this project was a nice in-between. I used just 1 layer of merino, knowing that there will be some gaps but I don't mind about that because the cotton is nice too and I want it as thin as possible. The merino was 60 grams of a gradient of yellow, orange, pink and purple and I decided to lay the wool as is, so no thinking which color to use, no choices to make, just used the wooltop, whisp after whisp. On top I used yellow-orange silk hankeys and pink-purple silk waist fibers with just whisps of merino to secure the silk. After wetting the project I fell in love with the colors, like a beautiful sundawn! I hoped that it would be as vibrant after felting and fulling. It took a lot of time to get the fibers to migrate through the cotton so I carefully rubbed and sanded, rubbed and sanded, with lots of hot water and soap. It is more labor intensive than rolling but it gives me more control and keeps the shawl in good shape. When the fibers were safely secured, I rinsed the shawl in hot and cold water, gave it a short spin to remove the water and 2 x 10 minutes in the dryer. It was oké after the first 10 minutes but I wanted it a little more fulled. Finished it with steam-ironing. Loved to see the colors stayed as vibrant as I hoped for.

I love the colors of your shawl Madeleine. Absolutely looks like sunrise/sunset colors. Sounds like a lot of work but well worth the effort.

Love it Madeleine! Gorgeous colors. What color was the cotton? The cotton was a kind of lavender with black pieces at the end.
