Totally my fault, Nada! Yes, I put them in the washing machine way too early - put them on a short cycle thinking it would get the felting done, (I'd forgotten how difficult rolling thick felt is & I think it had taken me so long to lay the layers I got bored with rolling too soon), I thought I'd then shape & shrink them on my feet, as I don't have lasts. But they'd already shrunk too much. I used mostly Corriedale, with a couple of layers of mystery wool in the middle.
I will try again.

Nada, I think we don't understand each other. You have to cut from ear to ear. That is clear. But I mean what is the distance from the centre of the cut to your heel from the template ?

Viltmaaraan, I had to check my template. For the shoe size 38 (which is the most common size for women), the distance from the centre to the heel is 11 cm. I hope I've helped. Please show us your slippers when you make them.
Jill, don't give up. I know that making slippers is physically demanding and takes a lot of energy. I usually make them in two rounds: on the first day I only lay wool and felt them (lots of rubbing). Next day I start shaping them (lots of rolling, pounding) until the fit the last. Then I put them in the washing machine. I've noticed that felt needs some rest too. In my experience it shrinks faster if it has rested overnight.

Viltmaaraan - you don't cut down the length of the slipper - only across the middle then you pull & work the felt to open that cut to make the foot hole & heel shape! I hope that makes sense.
Thanks for the encouragement Nada, I've made a couple of pairs last year that turned out OK, so I will try again.

That is also not my question , I'll cut it on the right place, this is not what my question is about. My question is: how long is the lengt from middle/centre of the cut to the heel of the template.

Viltmaaraan do you mean form the middle of the cut across the ears to the bottom(heal)of the resist? I think maybe we need a picture or drawing.

I think Nada answered with 11 cm.
