Perhaps ramie? Looks almost like dyed flax but flax doesn't felt in like that.

I think I might be really stupid. I just looked at the WoW site again & the only thing that's that colour is tussah silk - could it be that? so rough? It does look like silk once felted.

I've never seen tussah silk look so rough. All mine is very shiny and smooth.

Could it be linen? I know that the linen knitting yarn is very coarse-feeling until the garment is washed and worn.

I was thinking its one of the cellulose fibers. they can look terrible. the only time silk looks like that is when there is sarsen is still in it. but you wouldn't dye it that way. it would los the dye when you took the sarsen out you would take the dye out. the strands look to thick for silk too. you could try asking WOW what they think it is. They are very nice and helpful.

I think this is linen. I've used it before and the way it felts in looks similar to me.

Jill, was it the botany lap waste?, if so it could be the coloured corriedale or the cashmere blend.

I'm quite sure it's flax/linen. I work with flax a lot and it looks very familiar ! The colour is gorgeous!

Also in the botany waste bags, it does state there may be silk tops, so I think that's your answer.

Thanks everyone - I guess it doesn't matter too much - it's pretty & it's soft once felted, & it melded in nicely with the merino, felted easily & has made an attractive scarf, so for me, that's what matters!

Glad you are happy with your scarf Jill. After looking at the botany waste on WOW to try to help you, I couldn't resist purchasing a bag, there is 25% off this month after all.....How exciting to get a bag of surprise fibres.

It's great stuff, Tracey - usually a good variety, it encourages me to use colours I wouldn't necessarily gravitate to, which is useful when selling. & you can be brave & experimental with it, as it's so inexpensive. Often get a few luxury mixes with some silk in, & some interesting colour mixes with the ends of other people's personalised orders. Useful to have more colour choices when making pictures. & the stuff I really don't like can always go as middle layers in a thicker piece. & now even better this month!
& always a fun surprise to see what you get when the postman comes! Enjoy

Yes I totally agree with you regarding colour, we do tend to stick with personal choices but we all have different tastes and yes I would hope to sell one day, so horizons need to be broadened! Looking forward to the delivery even more now, thanks Jill.
