My sister-in-law was organising her village festival recently & wanted to ensure she had enough variety in her textiles craft section, so asked me to send in an item. I sent a wet felt picture I'd made last year for 1 of our quarterly challenges here - it was an interpretation of Monet's waterlilies paintings. I added further free machine embroidery, just 'cos I wanted the practice, & I gave it the title "When Claude came to Surlingham", with a little spiel about how their village pond with weeping willows reminded me of Claude Monet.
I won! & not only the textiles section, I won Best in Show! How mad, especially as I live 2000miles away. & it sold within 15 mins.
So, if I ever feel the need to talk myself up in terms of my 'art', I guess I can say I'm a gold medal winner!

Wow, Jill, that is a wonderful story. Good for you. Do you have a photo of the finished piece with the machine embroidery? I'd love to see it again. Definitely something to put on your art resume!

Congratulations. I bet you are proud. What a great story. This make you an internationally selling artist now.I hope you asked enough for it. I to hope you have a picture of the finished piece. They must have taken pictures of it with it's ribbons.

Thanks everyone, but I didn't remember to take a photo before I sent it & no Ann, they didn't! It was just a bit of fun a very small event, so no great kudos! It had been to a couple of sales here without any interest, so I was happy for them to have it towards their village funds.
