Hello ladies
I am finding that once I have wet my wispy thin layers of fibers, it is very slippery :-( and with a result, it often slips to one side and forms "welts" which I can't spread evenly again.
Once I have laid down my double layer of dry fiber, I cover it with my tulle, use my bulb sprinkler with the soapy water and pat it down with my hands. When I lift the tulle off and put the bubble wrap over to start rubbing (at first with my hands and really gently!) I can feel the wet fibers shifting.
Is my water too soapy? What am I doing wrong?
Regards Linn

Quite possibly too much soap & too much water. If you have lots of soap suds or bubbles then I'd say it's too soapy. But too much water can also make it slide. Practice will give you your favourite methods, it might be better just do some small practice pieces for a while.

Linn, since you've described yourself as a 'control-freak', you might be happier with using the painter's plastic instead of the tulle. That way you don't have to remove one thing to add another. You can just lay the bubble wrap on top of the plastic when the fibers have meshed enough for stronger manipulation.

Hello Jill.
I think my problem is too much wetting down. I don't have any soap foaming in the wetting down stage, only once I start rubbing and then it is not really that much either.
So I will cut down with the wetting down on my next project and see if I find an improvement.

Hi Elizabeth
I didn't explain clearly, obviously :-)
My work top is covered with plastic, similar to the builder's plastic you are referring to. Then I have my project which is either my piece of fabric which is placed on a piece of bubble wrap; or if it is only fiber, it is laid on top of this plastic cover (like I did yesterday with my bag). And then, once I have laid down the fiber and wet it down, I cover it with the tulle for the first smoothing down by hand. And then it the tulle is removed and the bubble wrap is placed on top.
Some people use curtain netting, some use the tulle, like me.
I'm doing it exactly as all the tutorials I bought and downloaded, and everything else I read and watched on the internet :-)
Regards Linn
