What a massive achievement. Many hands make light work - and make it fun too! I'm glad I didn't have to take it home to wash though as it must have been back-breakingly heavy.
The pictures from the exhibition are so varied and I liked the 3D one of the birds.
Thank you for posting all the lovely photos.
(I've put the finished rug on Pinterest so that others can see it.)

Thank you Lyn for posting the picture on Pinterest. Yes, when still wet, the rug was so heavy. I don't know how this woman managed to wash it in the bathroom tub.

Nada, did you make the jackets as well as the dresses on the girls? They are so lovely.
I like the collaborative idea of the large piece, a super idea for the project.

What a great cooperative project! Thanks for sharing. Will you have an opportunity to see the finished piece after the other felters add their work?

Wonderful Nada. It must have been such a treat working with the group and creating such a wonderful piece. I hope we do get to see it after it makes it's trip to the others and back again.

Jill, yes I made the dresses and jackets as well as handbags. We'll have to wait for a few months until the rug comes back and will be exhibited again. I'll post a picture when it comes back.

What a great idea, Nada, to work with and exhibit work from Slovenes on both sides of the border! I love all the pictures.

Here is a follow up of the joint felting project, organised by the Bicka Felters Association from Solčava, Slovenia. It started last year during the wool festival in Solčava. The idea was to create a tapestry as a joint effort between felters from three different regions: two from Slovenia and one from Austria. Imagine the people living in small communities, in the valleys separated by steep mountains. All of them speak the same language but use different dialects. These are Alpine regions where many people deal with sheep breeding, so there is plenty of wool. So the idea behind the project was how can the warmth of wool embrace all. In this project the wool from domestic sheep was used. The project started with a grouo of felters from Solčava. Thare was a blank canvas, a round shaped white prefelt which was made beforehand. i852.photobucket.com/albums/ab85/nvukadinovic/festival%20volne%20Solava%201.%20dan%202016%20021_zpsfczc4uaf.jpg You can see us standing aroun the table and brainstorming ideas how to create a picture which would show what are the things which are common to all, what connects the people from the three regions. In this pictures you can see that in pairs we managed to do something. It was hard work, especially when we started rolling the tapestry. i852.photobucket.com/albums/ab85/nvukadinovic/festival%20volne%20Solava%201.%20dan%202016%20025_zpsqnmo6wbn.jpg i852.photobucket.com/albums/ab85/nvukadinovic/festival%20volne%20Solava%201.%20dan%202016%20030_zpsctsvcvi5.jpg And this is what we got at this first stage: i852.photobucket.com/albums/ab85/nvukadinovic/Solava%202016%20modna%20revija%20025_zpsfld3i8z2.jpg We had to leave some empty spaces because the tapestry then travelled to Austria where felters from that region added more details to the picture. Since the tapestry was already felted and fulled, they had to use felting needles only. After a month the tapestry moved to the third valley in Jezersko. Local felters, together with guests started adding more motifs using felting needles, cutting out and sewing on scraps of different woollen materials. As you can see the group sitting around the table was very busy trying to finish the work before the exhibition. All the empty spaces were filled in with different motifs. i852.photobucket.com/albums/ab85/nvukadinovic/20170204_155628_zpsghmg6yla.jpg i852.photobucket.com/albums/ab85/nvukadinovic/20170204_155641_zpsuw1wcprn.jpg i852.photobucket.com/albums/ab85/nvukadinovic/20170204_163136_zpszsicqwqa.jpg i852.photobucket.com/albums/ab85/nvukadinovic/20170204_163139_zpsmoueqcrb.jpg i852.photobucket.com/albums/ab85/nvukadinovic/20170204_175538_zpspgyksphr.jpg i852.photobucket.com/albums/ab85/nvukadinovic/20170204_175553_zpsaode2pfz.jpg i852.photobucket.com/albums/ab85/nvukadinovic/20170204_175603_zpsttod0zoj.jpg And this is the finished tapestry i852.photobucket.com/albums/ab85/nvukadinovic/20170204_175526_zps4covvms5.jpg It is difficult to say how many people participated in doing this project, all in all I think there must have been around 50 felters. The tapestry is now exhibited in Jezersko and after a month will return back to Solčava. It was such a fun project and I like the idea how it connected the people from different regions even more.
