Hello Ladies Spent some time on Pininterest. Loads and loads of sites of this type of openwork, mostly Russian and those countries. Seems that most are stitched by machine to keep the threads in place. Now that is one thing that I definitely would not like to do. The Artfelt paper works differently : one lays out the strip of paper required; lay out your roving with embellishments and then needle felt it here and there. Then cover it with thin plastic and dunk the lot in water to soak it really wet and roll it up into a sausage as and when you wet it. Then it gets placed into a panty hose, knotted closed at the end and placed in the tumble dryer for periods of up to 10 minutes at a time, checking after each sessions. After all of that it is a matter of dissolving the paper under very hot water, rinsing a final time and laying out flat to dry. I also found a link for a different type of soluble paper at florilegium.com/product/free-lace-paper/ which has one sticky side and a non-sticky other side. Not very wide though, also pricey. Regards Linn

When I saw this thread, I instantly thought of cutwork and lace, as in "broderie anglaise."
I look forward to seeing your version of openwork, Linn!

Hi Cathy
Don't hold your breath! <LOL> I first have to get loads of experience with wet felting before I will try the Artfelt paper technique!
