The other thing to do with yarn when done is wind it into a ball or skein over the length of your room or more. It evens out the twist in the spin or ply. It is really better to have a separate lazy kate you can place some distance away to help even out twist as your plying form the bobbins.

Ann that is interesting to hear as the Saori demonstrator definitely tells it differently - then she IS selling them. LOL. I would rather spend on current crafts than begin a new one at the moment,I do tend to go overboard,(blush)when I enter a new 'phase'. At the moment felting and Millinery have me completely hooked. I am saving to go on a 2 week crafting cruise next year.Just imagine 20 tutors and umpteen classes to choose from and no escape.LOL It sails from Sydney to Singapore so will give me some silk shopping time too.it is my dream birthday pressie to myself for my 70th birthday next year.

Saori is just freestyle weaving, no rules and can be done on any loom.

saori is an odd one. to teach it you must take a class from them and be certified. There is a whole mystic meditative philosophy that goes with it. Just do want you want and have fun doing it seems to sum it up. Rigged heddle looms work well and you can get a stand for them too if you want one.

It's all rather amiguous isn't it? You have to take a class to learn how to do your own thing.

Yes I agree Judith,I am always wary of things sold that sellers say MUST have their own attachments/fibres /style etc. Their threads are hugely expensive but my friend has outlayed a huge amount on reels of thread because she thought that was all she could use until recently. Yes Ann the tutor lived in Japan, did their course there, and is one of only two Saori weavers selling their products in Australia. She does good business for them but has a second job so I think not so much for herself.

There are some here too. I don't know if they sell the special fibers for it. There are a couple of the ladies in my guild that do the saori weaving. One uses the special loom the other not. one has strength problems and the saori looms are very light. I think it's more like you can do saori on a any loom but you can't use a saori loom for anything but light weight weaving. At lest as I understand it.

There is a lady on Facebook "Spinners in the UK", who makes wonderful Saori style woven coats - all on a simple Rigid heddle loom using her own hand dyed, handspun yarns.

I became smitten with the Saori loom and purchased one after taking an intensive 3-day weekend class with a certified Saori instructor in the USA back in October 2015. The loom is lightweight, easily folds and is a beautiful wooden piece with a built-in bobbin threader. It was easy for me to learn how to weave on it, and I had never woven anything previous to this experience.
Now here’s the catch. Yes, to formally teach Saori it has to be on a Saori loom, and you have to have been certified to teach by the Japanese organization which makes the products and runs the show. That’s if you want to be certified and registered as an instructor. They guard their trademark and you cannot advertise that you are teaching Saori weaving unless you meet their tough standards.
That’s all I will say about it. If you want more details you can PM me.

The Saori Instructor who is doing our demo in October will have lots of clothes she makes herself from the woven lengths - she has very trendy styles and out there colours too - very different. My felting buddy has just ordered another Saori loom, this time the smaller lightweight aluminium one to carry around with her. She gets the bigger one in a tangle when she travels with that one she said. She has been felting some of her weaving with some nice results.
