Hi
I have just made a shawl, but it doesn't fit properly around the neck, I tried to felt gathers into it but they really didn't work too well. I would appreciate any help.
Thank you

Perhaps you could wet it and full the neck area a bit more. Rubbing in the direction you want it to shrink. It will make the neck area thicker of course. It would help if you could post a photo, so we can see the problem. You will no doubt get more feedback from others with better ideas.

Totally agree with Judith, rubbing or rolling in the direction and just on the area where you want it shrink is the route I would take but it will need to be wetted out with warm water first. Alternatively, you could do some shibori stitching to add pleats, a bit like the collar on this jacket: link
to do do this you need to stitch lines of running stitch 1-2 cm apart across the area where you want the pleats, use a very strong thread. Once all the lines of stitching are in place, pull them very tight to create your gathers, knot the ends and then steam your shawl for 20-30 min to fix the pleats, then let it dry completely before removing the stitches.
