Thanks Nada and Terri. Nada I did the yardage for my vest somewhat like you suggest. I laid out the whole table then wet down and rolled it up so I could finish the rest which was about another 18 inches over the edge. It was awkward trying to roll such a large piece of fabric though I must admit. It is done now and I had less than anticipated shrinkage so have plenty for the vest thank goodness. Terri I do have a 3 metre by 1 metre workbench and another table I can push up to it but find I cannot then reach the centre easily which is why I laid this way (above). It worked but was hard to roll until it shrunk enough to fit the table. As you can see here the fabric lies longer than the table and it is also about 18" over the other side. Wetting and rolling first to slide the rest of the fabric onto the table was the only way I could think of to get enough of the yardage done. It worked!

Thanks for the link and inspiration Galina, today I made a couple of samples from my extensive stash of acrylic yarns and I am really happy to say they all felted brilliantly although I prefer the orange one... next stop another bolero jacket, this time in "tweed"!

Wow Teri, those really turned out great. I agree about preferring the orange one although I think the blue one might look better on a blue background instead of white. Can't wait to see your new tweed jacket!

I deliberately only laid out 2 fine layers of wool as th base for these as I want the final fabric to still have some drape and figured the crosswise layout of the yarns would give it structure and strength too. It seems to have worked and I am very happy with the results I think you are right Ruth, the tweed effect looks more realistic if I use a coloured base and just lay out a few white yarns over that, I wonder what complimentary colours would look like? Ie, orange base with blue yarns....?

Great job Galina, I'm glad you got one that you really like. Just takes a bit of practice and experimenting on the layout.
