I'm very happy with my wheel Minstrel (Kromsky), easy to use, simple or double drive, I can spin thin to thick (with the jumbo kit for very thick)

I don’t spin but have read excellent reviews about the Kromski wheel via the blogs.

That's the trouble, everyone has good things to say about the wheel they got! I don't think I've seen a bad comment about a wheel. Maybe I just need more than one

It's a matter of find the one that fits you. The are all good but not all for everyone.

Zed I am looking for the same and not to add more confusion but the main point seems to be one peddle or two and the weight of the wheel, most wheels have adaptives for thick yarn. Everyone I have spoken to have more than one wheel !!! Let me know how you get on

I thought the weight of the wheel was just a consideration for carting them about? I can't see how I'll ever get to try any to decide to be honest. I've seen other people ask questions when they're first starting, but it's like with weaving, all the answers are so full of specific lingo, it may aswell be a foreign language

Zed I knew nothing about wheels when I got one. I wanted a double treadle for no particular reason. I wanted a castle style because it takes up less room. I got an Ashford traveler. I liked it just fine. you can't do art yarns on it unless you get another spinning assembly for it. If you want t do art yarn then you need a larger orifice or no orifice( they have a wire loop)

See, I don't even know what a castle style is or spinning assembly, I'm guessing an orifice is some kind of hole. Maybe I will have a look on craftsy for a tutorial or some other 'Explain like I'm 5' source

I would be clueless too Zed but I'm not interested so I don't have to worry about it.

I agree about the Ashford traveller and the joy, but I also saw another one like the joy but cheaper with a art yarn adaptation and it was smaller, it's difficult. A spinner I know has 5 wheels and loves her traveller double treddle, but again that's personal choice, good luck Zed, I'm still waiting to loan a Joy.

ok castle stile has all the working part overtop of the wheel. a saxony style has it beside. a saxony is likely to be the one you think of when you think of a spinning wheel. the orifice is where the wool goes through to the top of the flyer( the thing with arms and hooks)and onto the bobbin. The castle style isn't better then the other, it just takes up much less room in the house. Casttle styles often come out of northern and eastern Europe. Smaller houses maybe? Abby in the video is very knowledgeable.
