Elizabeth, as Lyn has said, practice on some woven fabric. When you get to stitching on felt, you may find you need to loosen off the tension a little, particularly if you are working on a thick piece.
Go for it, it's fun and the only way to learn is to get started.

Love the lagoon. It is a cross of topographical and looking out a plane window.
I understand about the machine stitching. Make a simple piece to practice on. Add come different things for texture here is the one I did. the tree trunk went wonky Now I just have to clear some time and space to try it.

That's really cute and colourful Ann. Trees are often wonky, so no worries.

Really cute Ann - you're going to add machine stitch? And I love the tree!

I like the wonky tree Ann- there's a lovely texture to the whole piece.

This one I made for practicing machine stitch. I need to do some practice on a plain piece first.

Over the last few years I have made all sorts of pieces of felt - trying out all sorts of things and also intended making cushions but had no backing. I cut some of the pieces and left some whole and made a throw which is now on my bed. WhenI get time and figure out how, I shall post a picture!! Bit of a technophobe I'm afraid.

Love the texture you got with your piece, Ann. Is that silk on top? And the colors are terrific!

The house wall and roof are Habotai silk. The tree trunk is habotai and the leaves are chiffon. I think. It is not soft. I don't like it for anything next to the skin. I have lots of it as I ordered the wrong thing a few years ago. the flowers in front of the house and clouds are throwsters waist.

Ann I love your wonky tree picture and I hope you enjoy machine embroidering it. I was considering a beach hut design using silks but I thought it might go too wonky, so seeing your little house standing nice and straight I'm inspired to give it a go.

Here's a piece I made using some old very thick pieces of felt cut into rough circles then covered with dyed scrim. I also used up some more of the failed nuno felting project for the water. I added a couple of pieces of sari silk ribbon, some green sari silk which rather got swallowed up by the felt, and then embellished it with embroidery, beads, organza, machine stitching, shells. It reminds me of a rockpool (minus the crabs or anemones) www.flickr.com/photos/24232165@N03/25824356273/in/dateposted-public/

Fabulous Marian! I like the way you've covered the pieces of thick felt with scrim - they look like rocks covered in lichen or algae. The colours and textures you've put into this piece are gorgeous.
