I am totally into garments lately. This is a top, XL size, nuno felted, wool sandwiched between two layers of silk (margelan). I think I used about six metres of silk for this. www.ipernity.com/doc/724735/41544144 www.ipernity.com/doc/724735/41544148 I dyed silk with natural colours, i.e. avocado pods which yielded a very nice peach colour (you cannot see it in the picture, the light was bad). I used 18 mic white merino wool and 21 mic peach coloured merino. This was supposed to be a long-sleeve top with a bit different sleeves than the body but then I changed my mind and decided to use the sleeves in another project. With this project I wanted to see what effect one can get with lots of silk and learned how to make silk roses and felt them in. Learning, learning, learning ......

Gorgeous Nada! I love the cap sleeves and your felted rose turned out great. The avacado does make a pretty peach color.

My daily dose was taking a drive to the closest fiber store and going a little overboard restocking. I found out that Ashland Bay is discontinuing their Colonial line, so I had to get more turquoise (in the bag in back). I believe it is corriedale or a mix. I use it often in batts or mid layer for stability. The cream color fiber is baby alpaca. I'm sharing this with Cathy for her natural dyeing class. I've also been working of parts of a new project to be revealed later. :-) _

Lovely top Nada. Did you find it difficult to have the two layers of silk? I was thinking I might like that for a reversible skirt. My daily dose has ben doing some hand sewing on a felt picture. I have one small tree done.

Thank you ladies for positive comments. Ann, felting with two layers of silk was no problem. I was using margelan silk gauze for the bottom an a little denser margelan silk in the top. The exception were roses which were made of ponge silk which adhered well at the bottom but since there are so many relatively tight folds in them I made some stitches to shape the rose and make sure it keeps in place during wearing and also after next washing of the garment.

Working with fabric instead of roving – I made two tunics to wear with white slacks this summer. The black and white is a trapeze shape and the print is a simple A-Line. They do not look like much on the hanger but are really cute on and when I was in Florida I had several people stop as ask me where I purchased the polka dot one. The pink and green is a lite weight upholstery fabric - I pre-washed the fabric before sewing. I really like the body it has compared to the light weight cotton polka dot. The pink polka dot is a piece of fabric I purchased and was thinking of using the flowers in felting but instead trimmed it into a summer scarf wrap by trimming it around the flowers. They were packed in a suitcase and need to be pressed again. I did use purchased sewing patterns. back front
