I think it depends how the bag is used and how often. I made a back pack with Merino, and added a layer of silk chiffon to the back to prevent pilling, but after two wears it was bobbling up. My little shoulder camera bag is made from Merino offcuts and is almost bald in places! I agree with what others have said, especially the nuno, those parts of my camera bag are fine.
If I made a heavy use bag again, I'd make the back out of something very sturdy like Canvas and just use a felted piece for the front.

Merino prefelts will pill I have found, I have a jacket made with prefelt and very frustrating that it pills after 30 mins wearing where it touches ( underarms and sides mainly).I hopped off a plane covered in felt pills after the first wearing.LOL I notice that a dark green prefelt I have in a big plastic bin is beginning to pill each time I touch it to push it lower in the pile.Tells me that I should use prefelts in the centres rather on externals I think- or overlaid with silk.

Nada - Does Wollfabrik have a physical location in Germany? I'm asking as my sister is in that area now and I was wondering if she can actually purchase wool for me while she's visiting. thanks

merino is not good for anything that is going to rub or be rubbed. The fibers are fine and break easily and then start to migrate out and pill. My nuno jacket is the same. its not a matter of fulling more either. This is what I have heard people say. no matter ho much you full it, it is still merino. there are other wools that are better for the job. BFL and Fin both make good sturdy felt that doesn't end up hairy unless you throw it a lot while fulling. The C1 cross is very nice and not itchy . it is just so expensive to use.

In Australia merino is the one always available unfortunately.Though I have heard that adding a top layer of viscose will eliminate the pilling I haven't any to try with yet. I can now also source good supplies of crossbred (Merino x Corriedale 25 micron) and that seems to be felting well as I made some slippers with it yesterday and apart from some guard hairs it seems good so far. Polwarth is also available locally (I am in t6he country no city shops here) in a range of colours and felts well for me,(25-28 micron)but as I can dye my own the color range is not vital - just easier as dyeing often leaves me needing to card which slows everything down. Having just located a local Alpaca supplier I have some rovings now but not yet used it.I am guessing about 12-15 micron by the feel of it.
